OBITUARY: Archie Roberts
Archie Earl Roberts, the son of Mr. & Mrs. William Roberts, was born on a farm near Aurora, Nebraska, on January 27, 1913, and passed away at Lincoln, Nebraska, on November 16, 1989, of injures sustained in a motor vehicle accident on October 27, 1989.
He grew up and graduated from Aurora High School, and the Lincoln School of Commerce.
On February 28, 1934, he was united in marriage to Doris Lucille Keller, at Hastings, Nebraska.
He lived and farmed as a third generation on a farm for 41 years, and in March of 1976 he built a new house in Aurora, and moved into town. He still kept a hand in the farming operation.
After moving into Aurora he maintained several part-time jobs and worked for the city as a parks maintenance man for the past 5 ½ years. This was a job he dearly enjoyed as he could keep his hand in the "soil." He loved his roses and worked hard at their care.
Archie had a special interest in carpentry, making small what-not shelves and cabinets. He kept physically fit by taking walks each day to the store, or uptown to pay bills.
He was devoted to the care of his wife, who in the later more recent years became an invalid. He insisted on the lifting and moving of her to and from home so she could get out too. They enjoyed trips to Lincoln for doctor visits, then shopping and a stay at a motel for a get-away. He was devoted to his grandchildren, helping them in whatever way he could. He always was asking how they were doing in school or out, on their jobs, etc.
He enjoyed taking trips to Colorado for the mountains, and also collecting paintings of the mountains.
Archie was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church, and was also a 25 year member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Lodge, #378 in Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Lucille, of Aurora; 3 sons, Dale and his wife Shirley of Grand Island, and their children, Bill and Renee; Rodney and his wife Janet of Aurora, and their children, Kelly and Scott; Kenneth and his wife Jennie of Lincoln, and their children Kevin and Craig; and 6 great-grandchildren, Jonathan Roberts, Nicholas Roberts, Tara Jo Roberts, Daniel Andersen, David Andersen, and Ashlee Roberts.
