Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harrold with the Rev. Brian Lemcke officiating.

Alma Elizabeth Auch was born to John and Paulina (Mehrer) Auch on July 12, 1909, in Lesterville. She lived and attended school in Lesterville until her family moved to Harrold and built their new farm.
On Dec. 6, 1931, she married Emil "Curly" Stiefel at Harrold. After residing in town for about two years, they moved to the country where they farmed until 1946, when they moved back into town. She worked for the local hotel and café for a short time and later joined her husband as school custodian until retiring in 1967. In earlier years, she also assisted Dr. Martin as he brought new lives into the world.
Alma found great satisfaction in her flower gardens; preparing meals, especially old-fashioned German dishes; and making quilts. Her home was her castle, and her grandchildren loved being her guest.
Her last six years were spent as a resident of Maryhouse in Pierre.
She is survived by one son, Martin (Lola) of Harrold; eight grandchildren, Linda (Bob) Helvik of Glendale, Ariz., Doyle (Diana) Stiefel of Tea, Peggy (Jim) Lappe of Pierre, Jeanie (Dean) Ritter of Harrold, Sandra (Rick) Alley of El Paso, Texas, John (Julie) Stiefel of North Mankato, Minn., Julie (Troy) Briggs of Palmyra, Pa. and Steven Stiefel of Harrold; 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren; three sisters: Lea (Alvin) Winckler, Lydia (Clifford) Thorn and Theona (Richard) Schimitz; two brothers: Nestor (Marcella) Auch and Alton (Clara) Auch; and many nieces and nephews.
