Fred passed away Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Good Samaritan Center in Sioux Falls.
Fred Mittleider was born October 22, 1918 to Carl and Mathilda (Aldinger) Mittleider on a farm south of Bowdle. In 1926 they moved to the Java area, where he finished his education.
In 1936 he worked with the C.C.C. Camp which was Civilian Conservation Corps, near Newell, later at Lake Hiddenwood. He entered the Army on February 21, 1941 and served in the 7th Infantry 3rd Division in the European, African, and Middle eastern Theater. He was Honorable Discharged on July 14, 1945.
He returned to his parent's farm and did some farming and had a threshing machine crew. He married Viola Schlepp on December 21, 1947. They lived on their farm near Java. In 1955 they moved to Mobridge. He worked for Glader's Brothers, and then ran the Bulk Truck for Phillip 66 until he retired in 1980.
He started working part time for the Corps of Engineers. In 1984 he delivered mail for a rural route for one year for Bob Hare. He returned to work for the Corp of Engineers. In 1987 Davis Martin of Mobridge contracted Corp of Engineers Parks and Fred started working for Davis mowing the parks around Mobridge and Pierre.
In April of 2006 Fred and Viola moved to Aberdeen, SD to be closer to family. In October 2009 they resided at the Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls, SD.
Fred Mittleider kept busy all his life. He enjoyed playing baseball in his younger days and liked to hunt and fish with his friends and family. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play in sports and liked to spend time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by wife Viola of Sioux Falls, two sons Clyde (Cindy) Mittleider of Sioux Falls, SD, Jim (Monica) Mittleider of Gillette, WY, three daughters Peggy Zeadow of Bladen, NE, Susan (Dennis of Sioux Falls, SD) Krell of Dakota Dunes, SD, and Bonnie (Terry) Lundberg of Aberdeen, SD, three sisters Ida Sekeres of Muskegon, MI, Elsie Keller of White Lake, SD, and Irene Kost of Herreid, SD, 18 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren.
