Alma Kinzler, 96, Gackle, North Dakota, died Sunday night March 17, 2013, at the Jamestown Regional Medical Center.
Alma was born on August 25, 1916, at the family farm near Fredonia, North Dakota, the daughter of Johanes G. Burkle and Wilhilmina Schimke. Alma was the 8th child in a total of 12 living children. She attended school through the eighth grade at the country school near the farm. As a young adult, she moved to the Fargo/Moorhead area where she worked as a housekeeper for several different families.
On November 28, 1939, she married Walter Kinzler at Fredonia, Logan County, North Dakota. They lived for a time with her parents, then on a nearby farm, eventually moving to Fredonia. During this time, their two sons were born. About 1863, the family moved onto a farm located approximately ten miles northwest of Fredonia.
In 1967, her husband, Walter passed away. Alma then moved to Gackle where she resided until 2005. The years in town seemed to be her best years, she was very happy. She had a beautiful garden every summer and took much pride in its appearance. Her canned pickles were the best! She took on a number of tasks such as painting houses, helping with church events but her claim to fame was cooking for the Gackle Cafe where she excelled in the preparation of German dishes and established quite a reputation. Due to failing health she had to leave her much loved home in Gackle and moved into an assisted living facility in Jamestown. You are missed and we love you very much.
Alma is survived by one son and two daughters-in-law; five grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
Alma was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; and son, Harris.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2013, at the Haut Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.
Walter C. Kinzler born June 08, 1912, died December 23, 1967, in Logan County, North Dakota.
