Mr. Burkle was born to John and Wilhelmina Burkle on Feb. 26, 1911, in Fredonia, N.D., where he grew up and attended school. On Nov. 2, 1933, he married Martha Rath in Gackle, N.D. They farmed near Fredonia and Gackle. In September, they entered Gackle Care Center. He entered Central Dakota Nursing Home in January, 1997.
