Bernice M. Schnurbuch, age 86, died on Monday, March 2, 2015, at the UW Hospital. She was born on April 26, 1928, in Carson, N.D., the daughter of Konrad and Magdalena Zimbelman.
Bernice attended high school and graduated in 1948 from North Central Bible Institute in Minneapolis, Minn. She moved from North Dakota to Madison, Wis., to live with her sister and husband and got a job as a cake decorator at the Federal Bakery. She met Donald Schnurbusch at Bethesda Church in Madison, and theirs was the first wedding at the church on March 23, 1956. Bernice was a homemaker until her children were grown. She worked at various places, ending her employment at the age of 80 at the Douglas Stewart Company.
Bernice loved cooking, baking, canning, freezing and traveling. Around Christmas time, she made up gift boxes of peanut brittle and numerous assortments of Cookies. She enjoyed sending out birthday cards every week and kept a birthday book that had pages for each day and month of the year. She almost met her goal to fill the book up with a person's Birthday for every day of the year. Bernice enjoyed serving for many years as a Sunday school teacher, teaching the kids about Jesus Christ.
Bernice is survived by her son Earl (Deborah) of Oconomowoc; her Daughters, Roxanne Schnurbusch of Cottage Grove and Audrey Schmitz (Darren) of Madison; granddaugther Lauren Schnurbusch; sister, Erna Hazard of Cottage Grove; sister-in-law, Ruth Zimbelman of Minot, N.D.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; Brothers, Harry, Elmer, Raphil, Hugo, Emmanuel, Emil, Ruben and Nathan; a son-in-law, Dale Pernot; and other relatives.
Funeral service will be held at Grace Baptist Church, 1801 S. Thompson Drive, Madison, WI 53716, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2015, with Pastor Dean Howell presiding. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, Friends may call at Gunderson East Funeral Home, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, march 13, 2015, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on saturday at the church.
