Jacob came to US at age of 8 with his father and step mother Eva Ehly Fuhrman.
From the book"The Saga of Ponca Land", by Adeline Gnirk, published in 1979.:
Jacob Jr. Fuhrman, the eldest and the son of Jacob and Katharina Ehly Fuhrman, Sr., was born December 18, 1882 in Rohrback, South Russia. His mother died in childbirth when Jacob Jr. was a tot and 'his father married her younger sister, Eva. Jacob Jr. was eight years of age when he arrived in America with his father and step-mother and family. The young family settled in Sutton, Nance County, Nebraska in the fall of 1890. During the years 1892-1899 they lived near St. Francis, Kansas. In 1899 he located in the Rosebud Country with his parents near Fairfax, South Dakota. Jacob labored near Fairfax on the new railroad building through the new frontier west to the Tripp County line. In 1906 he purchased a relinquishment to a homestead
located one and one-half miles northwest of Herrick, South Dakota.
Feb. 9, 1908 Jacob Fuhrman Jr. was wed to Miss Elizabeth Frank of Herrick, South Dakota at the home of her parents.
Elizabeth was born December. 20, 1886 in Russia to Frederick and Elizabeth (Fehr) Frank from Worms, South Russia who had homesteaded near Herrick, South Dakota in
1905.
Jacob Jr. was very active in civil and community affairs; he has held positions on the Township Board, School Board, Church, and town board where he served as Mayor of Herrick after their retirement to that city in 1952. Currently Jacob resides in the Rosebud Nursing Home in Gregry, South Dakota. Elizabeth Fuhrman Jr. passed away February 5, 1977 at the Home where she and her husband had lived. February 9, 1975 they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. They are the parents of four daughters: Freida married Sam Hieb, four sons - Russell, Ralph, Dr. Robert, and Joseph; Edna married Harold Sieh, five children -Ruth, Donald, Charles, Judy and Lois; Alma married Herman Hieb, four children, Lucille, Paul, and two deceased; Lydia married Ben Cahoy, adopted two boys, Robert and William.
