GOODRICH -- Emil Buchmann, 73, Goodrich, died May 1, 2002, in the Bowman hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church, McClusky. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky.
Emil was born May 12, 1928, in rural Oliver County near Center, the son of Fredrich and Amelia Buchmann. He grew up and attended rural school. He entered the U.S. Army in January 1951 and served in the Korean Conflict. Emil was honorably discharged in December 1952. He married Alvina Schafer on June 26, 1952, in Wilton. After he returned from the service they lived and farmed near Baldwin.
They moved to a farm near Goodrich in 1955, and moved into Goodrich in 1961. He worked as a mechanic at Goodrich Machine from 1961 to 1966, as the Goodrich city maintenance man from 1966 to 1968 and as a mechanic for the Farmers Union Oil Co. in Denhoff from 1968 until 1977. At that time he purchased the Farmers Union building and went into business as Peoples Sales and Service in Denhoff. Alvina passed away on Nov. 27, 1996 . Emil entered the Sheridan Memorial Home, McClusky, in 2001 and moved into Southwest Healthcare, Bowman, in January 2002.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, McClusky, Albert Block American Legion Post, Goodrich, and the Goodrich Ambulance Service and Fire Department.
Emil is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Mike Sheets, Jamestown; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Wanda, and Lyle and Julie, all of Bowman; eight grandchildren, Josh and Amber Buchmann, Mark, Debra, Sam and Victoria Buchmann, Alecia and Ken Grigsby, Amanda Sheets, and Rebecca and Mike Partlow; one great-grandchild, Megan Buchmann; two step-sisters, Florence (Ervin) Jose, Wilton, and Irene Victor, Hazen; his mother-in-law, Lillian Schafer, Bismarck; and special friend, Alice Rueb, McClusky.
Emil was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one granddaughter, Rita Buchmann; five sisters, Herta, Frieda, Verona, Selma and Lucille; and five brothers, Theodore, Edwin, Alex, Herbert and Milton. (Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky)
