Frieda H. Ruff, 91, Roseville, MN, formerly West Fargo, ND, died Saturday, March 30, 2002, in the Presbyterian Home of Roseville, a nursing care facility, where she had resided since February.
Frieda H. Remboldt was born Jan. 21, 1911, in Medina, ND. She moved with her family to Gackle, ND, in 1923. She graduated from Gackle High School in 1927. In 1931 she graduated from Jamestown (ND) College with a BA degree. She taught school in Fredonia and Kulm, ND, and received a life teaching certificate. She also attended the Baptist Missionary Training School in Chicago, IL, and graduated in 1934. She received a missionary assignment to serve in Kodiak, AK, for three years, but chose instead to marry her high school sweetheart, Walter A. Ruff. They were married June 21, 1936.
In 1938 Frieda and Walt bought a Red Owl Agency grocery store in West Fargo, ND, which they operated for 17 years. Subsequently, they owned and operated a Dairy Queen and then the Skogmo Clothing store in West Fargo until 1971 when Walt retired. He died in 1980.
During the 60 years she lived in West Fargo, Frieda was very active in the Community Presbyterian Church and numerous activities including Bonanza Bells, Amita Women's Club and Pioneer Daughters. She also taught in the Fargo Adult Educational Program for six years, making many friends. Frieda continued to live in West Fargo until March 1998 when she moved to Oakcrest Senior Housing Complex in Spring Lake Park, MN, where she lived until September 2001. She then moved to Eaglecrest Assisted Living Complex in Roseville.
She is survived by two sons, Dale (Lola), Moundsview, MN, and Jack (Karen), Shoreview, MN; a sister, Loraine (Ed) Negravel, Portland, OR; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Thursday from 4-7 PM in West Funeral Chapel, West Fargo, with a prayer service at 7, and visitation one hour before the funeral in the church.
Funeral: Friday, April 5, 2002, at 11 AM in Community Presbyterian Church, West Fargo, with Rev. Mark Tilly officiating.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo, ND.
Last residence was Saint Paul, Ramsey Co., Minnesota; SSN was issued in North Dakota in 1962. First name spelled Frieda on SSDI.
