He was appointed Treasurer of Campbell County in 1901, and also served as the Deputy County Auditor. He later was appointed County Superintendent.
In 1905, he entered the banking business at Herreid, and was soon elected State Auditor, serving from 1907-1911. He later purchased interest in the Pierre Bank & Trust Co., but went back into politics and was appointed for the State Bank Examiner position, which he held for 3 years.
In 1917, He was selected to be State Superintendent of banks. Leaving the office in 1925, he became examiner for several additional banks in the Brookings area. In the late 1930s, he retired and moved to Elgin, ND.
