Jacob Schmierer,96, of Lodi, died March 13 at a local convalescent hospital after a short illness. He was born on April 7, 1903. in Windsor, Colorado.
Mr. Schmierer was raised in Colorado where he attended schools. He moved to Lodi in 1933. He married Bertha Rath in 1938 in Reno, Nevada. They resided in Lodi and the Lockeford area.
He owned a auto wrecking business in Lodi and Lockeford for 31 years. He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church. He enjoyed playing golf and horseshoes, gardening, flea markets, bicycle repair and woodwork.
He is survived by his daughter, Marilyn Martin of Lodi; brothers; Frank Schmierer and August Schmierer of Colorado; sister; Sarah Kitzmann of Colorado; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; Bertha Schmierer; sisters, Magdalene Renke, Rose Kitzmann, Carrie Hoffer; and Frieda Collins; and brothers; Henry, John, Fred, Ed, and Albert Schmierer.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday at Cherokee Memorial Park with Rev. William Crabtree of Emanuel Lutheran Church officiating.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lodi Funeral Home
