Katherine(a) Barbara Schenk was born in Hirschthal, a small village just south of Schönau. Both are close to the town of Pirmasens, which in 1822 was part of the Bavarian Pfalz (now the state of Rhineland Pfalz). She was christened on 5 Jan. 1823 in the Evangelisch faith (Christian Protestant) in Rumbach, a town a bit farther south and closer to the French border. On 27 Aug. 1844 Catharine Barbara married the widower Michael Bertschy in Schönau. (Familysearch.org)
She was called by her middle name, Barbara, rather than by Catherine. Louisa Yager, Barbara's daughter, named her third daughter Barbara apparently in honor of own mother: Barbara Johanna Yager Marschner. See my two photos of lists of other Bertschy relatives in the Mount Wood Cemetery plot B 87, Michael and Barbara were reburied in Greenwood Cemetery. Maryrose/JGS150
