She was taken ill in February, 1905, and had since been a constant though patient sufferer. In March of this year she underwent an operation at the hospital here, but to no avail and she gradually declined until death finally relieved her of her suffering last Friday. Kate Merkel, daughter of Conrad and Margaret Merkel, was born in Wayne county, Ohio, December 3, 1848, and was in her fifty eighth year at the time of her death. In 1856 she came with her parents to Boone County. The family resided for a year in Boonsboro and then moved to the farm north of Boone, where they have since been among the most prominent families of the locality. On November 24, 1872, she was united in marriage to Edward Wirtz. For a number of years they made their home in Boonsboro and in 1883 removed to the farm six miles northeast of Boone, where they continued to reside until last winter when on account of her failing health they came to Boone and purchased the home at 1315 Story street where she died. To them were born ten children, two of whom have preceded her to the better world, the survivors are Mrs. Maggie R. Deihl of Boone, John C. of Covinton, Oklahoma, Albert J. on the home farm, Mrs. Mary R. Stotts of Waterloo, Mrs. Catherine M. Sparks, residing east of Boone and Elizabeth L. and Elmer C. at home, who with the husband have the sincere sympathy of the entire community in the loss of a loving and devoted wife and mother. She also leaves two brothers, John Merkel of Boone and J.B. Merkel of York County, Neb., and three sisters Mrs. Mary R. Park, of Findley, Ohio, Mrs. Lizzie Goetzman and Mrs. Luella Goetzman, residing on farms north of Boone. All the relatives were present at the funeral except one daughter, Mrs. Stotts of waterloo, who was prevented from coming on account of illness. In her early youth the deceased became a member of the German Lutheran church and had always lived an earnest Christian life, devoted to her home and family. She was a loyal friend and a kind and generous neighbor, highly esteemed by all who knew her during her long and active life and in the circles where she was known her kindly presence will be greatly missed. The funeral services were held from the Presbyterian Church at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. O.H.L. Mason. The floral tributes were many and beautiful, bespeaking the heartfelt esteem of her many friends. The remains were followed to their last resting place in East Linwood cemetery by a large concourse of sorrowing friends and neighbors. | Merkel, Katharine (I200945)

| 133878 | www.findagrave.com: www.findagrave.com/memorial/24233752/margaret-ann-robben Margaret Ann (Meyer) Robben was born February 17, 1964 to Norman and Doris Meyer of Bethune, Colorado. Margaret grew up on the family farm north of Bethune. During her childhood she spent a great deal of her time just up the road at her Uncle Rueben's house, where she was showered with lots of TLC by Rueben, Amelia, Alma and Jerry. She was also the apple of her daddy's eye and was a great part of his world. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church north of Bethune where Margaret was raised in the Lutheran faith. It was that faith that she embraced to carried her through life's trials and tribulations. She attended Bethune School where she enjoyed all the clubs and activities a small school had to offer. Margaret was valedictorian of her graduating class from Bethune High School in 1982. After which she attended Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri. She was united in marriage to Michael Robben on March 10, 1984. To this union three children were born. Brent Michael Robben, born April 16, 1985, George Alan Robben born January 5, 1988 and Aimee Ann Robben born February 10, 1991. Margaret loved being a mother and housewife. She enjoyed many forms of crafts including candles, crocheting, canning, and attended several craft fairs. She enjoyed taking walks with friends and family from the time she was young walking the Bethune Highway until she lived across from the park and then walked the sidewalk there. Music was an important part of her life from listening to country, bluegrass, and Christian music at home to memorizing and singing her favorite hymns at church. She served many years on the worship committee at church and had every hymn number memorized. Margaret spent a lot of time cooking and searching for new recipes. Her expertise cooking was enjoyed by many people when she went to work at the Kit Carson County Hospital as dietary aid, where she worked for several years. Margaret loved her job and would even go to work when her health was declining. Her determination continued as she would attend softball games regardless of how she felt. Watching Aimee play softball was one of Margaret's greatest loves and enjoyed keeping scorebooks for hours during tournaments. Margaret had a passion for God's nature and loved flowers especially her columbines that she raised. She enjoyed watching storms and was known for her tornado chasing. When most people were seeking shelter, she and her boys were out seeking excitement. Margaret inherited her family's great sense of humor, which she passed down to her children. She always looked at life in the most positive way, and when she faced struggles she didn't allow her attitude or the attitude of others to get her down. Margaret is proceeded in death by: Her father, Norman Meyer of Bethune, Colorado. Grandparents Margaret and Conrad Meyer also of Bethune and Edward and Matilda Colbert of Goodland, Kansas. She is survived by her three children: Brent, George and Aimee Robben all of Burlington, Her Mother Doris Meyer also of Burlington.
