Mrs. Louis Sulsberger, 95, of Whiting, formerly of Hornick, died Thursday, July 21, 1983 in a nursing home at Whiting.
Mrs. Sulsberger, the former Anna M. Egger, was born Dec. 12, 1887, at Holly Springs.
She married Louis Sulsberger Dec. 12, 1911 at Holly Springs. They farmed near Holly Springs all their married life. He died April 25, 1981. She had lived at Pleasant View Nursing Home at Whiting for the last 10 months.
She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Church.
Survivors include two sons, Alvin A. of Hornick and Donald D., of Smithland; two daughters, Mrs. Milton (Irene) Smith and Mrs. Lyle (Julia) Baggs, both of Hornick; four sisters, Lydia, Lyda and Mary, all of Hornick and Mrs. Freda Sulsberger of Climbing Hill; 13 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

Louis A. Sulsberger, 90, Hornick, died Saturday April 25, 1981 in a Sioux City hospital of a brief illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in German City St. John’s Evangelical Church. The Rev. Walter Enstrom will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery under the direction of the Willman Funeral Home of Rodney.
Mr. Sulsberger was born Nov. 5, 1890, in Woodbury County. He farmed in Woodbury County until retiring 25 years ago.
He married Anna M. Egger Dec. 12, 1911, at Holly Springs. He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Church, a past director of the Holly Springs Public School and a member of the I.O.O.F. at Hornick.
Survivors include the widow; two sons, Alvin A. of Hornick and Donald D. of Smithland; two daughters, Mrs. Irene M. Smith and Mrs. Julia Baggs, both of Hornick; a brother, Charles, of Anthon; three sisters, Mrs. Pearl Steinhoff and Mrs. Lena Bryans, both of Sioux City, and Mrs. Lucy Smith of Whiting; 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchldren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Anna B. Weber, 87, former resident of Hornick, Iowa, who died July 10, 1955 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ella Goodsell, Costa Mesa, Cal., will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday at St. John Evangelical and Reformed Church at German City, near Hornick, Iowa.
Anna Weber was born May 20, 1868, at Lewisville, Ohio. She came with her parents to a farm near Hornick when she was 16 years of age. She was married to Charles Weber, December 30, 1890, and moved to a farm near Hornick, where she resided until 1934. Her husband Charles Weber preceded her in death in 1909.
In 1934, Anna Weber went to California to make her home with her daughter, Ella. She was confirmed in the Evangelical church in Ohio and after coming to the Hornick community she joined the Evangelical Church at German City of which she remained a member.
Survivors are a son, Alfred of Hornick; seven daughters, Mrs. Ella Goodsell of Costa Mesa, Calif.; Mrs. Edith Claus, of Anthon, Iowa; Mrs. Ruth Malloy of Kellogg, Iowa; Mrs. Elsie Lange of Bloomfield, Neb.; Mrs. Gertrude Persinger and Mrs. Lizzie Hanner, both of Hornick, Iowa; and Mrs. Alice Nirenberg of Costa Mesa, Calif.; a brother Charles Rose of Gillette, Ark.; 27 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Ella was the daughter of Charles and Anna Rose Weber and was born on March 22, 1892 at her folk’s home, known as Lum Hollow Stock Farm, in Woodbury County, near Hornick, Iowa.
In 1921 she graduated from the Evangelical Hospital School of Nursing at Marshalltown, Iowa and moved to California to practice nursing.
On June 25, 1936 she was married to Ray Goodsell at Ventura, California. Following their marriage the couple lived in California. Ray died on August 1, 1975 and in June of 1978 she moved to Montezuma, Iowa to make her home with her sister, Ruth Molloy.
Ella will be remembered as a caring and loving Christian by her family and friends. She took care of her mother for several years and helped when her sister was ill. She enjoyed her church work and gave to missions.
She is survived by her brother, Alfred Weber of Sioux City; her four sisters, Ruth Molloy of Montezuma, Elsie Lang of Bloomfield, Nebraska, Lizzie Hanner of Hornick, Iowa, and Alice Nierenburg of Newport Beach, California; and many nieces and nephews.
Ella died on July 31, 1989 at the Senior Home in Montezuma. She was 97 years of age and was preceded in death by her father on April 20, 1909, her mother on July 10, 1955, her husband on August 1, 1975, and three sisters, Nora Ann Weber on June 28, 1899, Edith Claus on August 27, 1964, and Gertrude Persinger on July 29, 1965.

Ella Weber Goodsell, 97, of Montezuma, Iowa, and formerly of Hornick, died Monday, July 31, 1989, in the Senior Home in Montezuma.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the German City Church, near Hornick with the Rev. Walter Enstrom officiating. Burial will be in the German City Cemetery. Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Smith Funeral Home of Grinnell is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Goodsell was born March 22, 1892, on the family farm near Hornick, the daughter of Charles and Anna Rose Weber. She attended Hornick schools and in 1921 graduated from Evangelical Hospital School of Nursing at Marshalltown. She moved to Glendale, Calif., and worked as a registered nurse. On June 25, 1936, she married Samuel R. Goodsell. The couple lived at Costa Mesa and Santa Cruz, Calif. He died in 1975 and she moved to Montezuma in 1978.
Survivors include a brother, Alfred Weber of Sioux City, and four sisters, Elsie Lang of Bloomfield, Neb., Ruth Molloy of Montezuma, Lizzie Hanner of Hornick and Alice Nierenburg of Newport Beach, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three sisters, Edith Claus, Nora Ann Weber and Gertrude Persinger.

Earl Franklin Hanner, 88, lifetime Hornick, Iowa, area resident, died Wednesday, August 7, 1991, at Marian Health Center in Sioux City, Iowa after several years of illnesses.
The son of Henry Hanner Sr. and his wife, Polly Kendall Hanner, Earl was born three miles north of Hornick on November 12, 1902. He graduated from the Holly Springs High School.
On December 21, 1927, he married Lizzie Ann Weber at the family home called the Lum Hollow Stock Farm located just 2½ miles east of the church. He was a farmer. He also was on the Board of the Hornick Farmer’s Elevator for 18 years. He moved to Hornick in 1971.
He was a member of the St. John Evangelical Church where he was a regular attendant when his health permitted. In a conversation with his pastor he told when he accepted Jesus as His personal Savior. He has been translated to the Church Triumphant where he awaits all of us who have made the same commitment to our Lord and Savior.
Survivors include his wife Lizzie of Hornick, one sister Iola McConnell of Sioux City, five children and their spouses.
Also 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, also a host of other friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant son, Carl Henry, and one daughter and her husband, Janiece and James Schram, and an infant granddaughter.

Ival Dale Persinger, 43, formerly of Smithland, Iowa, passed away on April 14, 1978 at a hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He had been in Saudi Arabia since June 1977 working as a remote sensing specialist on a joint project for the U.S. Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation Service and the U.S. Treasury and Interior.
He was born at Hornick, Iowa on February 10, 1935, the son of Everett and Gertrude Persinger. He was a graduate of Smithland High School and was an army veteran. On October 16, 1960, he was married to Lois Herriott at Atlantic, Iowa.
Ival began his career with the Soil Conservation Service after he was graduated from Iowa State University at Ames in 1957. Prior to going to Saudi Arabia, the couple had lived in Atlantic, and Logan, Iowa, in Indiana from 1967 until 1972 and in Columbia, Missouri from 1972 to 1977.
He was a member of the Community United Methodist Church at Columbia, Missouri and was active in numerous community organizations and a leader in sports activities for young people. Professional societies he held membership in included the American Society of Agronomy, Soil Science Society of America, Soil Conservation Society of America, National Association of Conservation Districts and was a Certified Soil Surveyor in Indiana, Iowa and Missouri.
He is survived by his wife, Lois, their children, Melody 16, who is attending school in Lugano, Switzerland, and Marcia 14 and Monte 9 at home; three brothers, Ardell Persinger of Whiting, Iowa, Gilbert Persinger of Smithland, and Richard Persinger of Arlington, Texas; and two sisters, Mrs. John (Macel) Schneider of Denison, Iowa and Mrs. Bruce (Irma Jean) Wightman of White Bear Lake, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 23, 1978 at the First Congregational Church, UCC at Whiting, Iowa with Rev. Willard Spencer of the Community United Methodist Church, Columbia, Missouri officiating.
The organist was Teresa Crevier. The singing group Malachi sang Psalm 121 and Psalm 55. The members of the group were Brent Huldeen, Robert Barnes, Ruth Kolbo, Bev Huldeen, and Terrie Crevier, all of Sioux City, Iowa from a “Fellowship in Christ”. Richard Persinger, a brother, sang “How Great Thou Art.”
Honorary bearers were Richard Gilbert, Gary Nordstrom, James Lee, Paul Larson, Jack Walker, and Gilbert Landtiser.
Active Bearers were Raymond Dideriksen, Douglas Lowe, Ed Smith, Farris Algood, Bruce Thompson and Joe Marshall.
Interment was in the German City Church Cemetery at Holly Springs, Iowa, with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home of Onawa, Iowa.
