Following her marriage to Fred Unruh in 1939, she resided on a ranch between Zap and Hebron, where they lived until 1967 when they moved to a ranch near Glendive. She was a member of the Glendive Evangelical Church. Survivors include the widower of Glendive; three children, Clarence Unruh of Hebron, Mrs Arlen Miller of Fallon and Willard Unruh of Terry; and her mother, Mrs Katherine Winkller of Glen Ulllin ND. | 131926 | www.findagrave.com: www.findagrave.com/memorial/117590892/leah-bauer LILLIAN SANDAU was born on the Fred Sandau homestead farm at New Leipzig, ND, two and one-half miles northwest of town on July 11, 1912 to Frederick and Juliana (Bierwagen) Sandau. Her given name was Lea. She grew up and lived all her life in Grant County. She attended New Leipzig schools and graduated in 1932. Lillian had artistic talents and was the school artist during her school years. She was requested to make posters for school plays. Lillian attended six months of Business College at Bismarck Capitol Commercial College. She was confirmed in the New Leipzig Lutheran church by Rev. Fred Kordwick. One summer she worked for her Uncle Bill Bierwagen north of Elgin doing farm work. Lillian met Alvin Bauer of Heil at a barn dance at the August Stelter farm about 1931. She went to church one Sunday evening with cousin Hulda (Bierwagen) Hetzler and after church Hulda suggested going to the dance. Lillian was afraid of what her parents would say, but Hulda said the parents were already asleep and wouldn't notice that she didn't come home right away. Alvin was at the dance with Linda Meidinger but had his eyes on Lillian and told her during the course of the evening that if he hadn't come with Linda, he would take her home! They were married July 9, 1933. In the winter of their first year of marriage they stayed with her parents while Alvin worked in the Davenport coal mine. The next summer they moved to Carson Lake Bed region and farmed and raised cattle for two years. During this time Alvin also worked on W.P.A. Their first daughter, Diana, was born on July 28, 1934. Later they lived on the Strohmeier farm south of Elgin for six months. In July of 1936 they moved to the Sandau farm after her parents moved to Oregon. Another daughter, Doris, was born August 25, 1936. Alvin and Lillian farmed, raising grain and cattle. Lillian always had a large vegetable garden and many beloved flowers. On July 15, 1940 a son, David, was born. The family lived and worked on the Sandau homestead for ten years. In the winter of 1946, the family left for Oregon to work. They returned and purchased his parents homestead when August and Karolina (Guthmiller) Bauer retired and moved to Elgin. Alvin and Lillian farmed until 1957 when they held an auction and Alvin began working on construction in Fargo, ND. They returned to the farm each winter and lived there until 1983. They sold the farm at Heil to their son, David. They moved to New Leipzig where on March 3, 1984 Alvin passed away. Lillian continued to live in her home there until she moved to Dakota Hill Housing in 2009. Lillian passed away at the St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck on September 20, 2013 at the age of 101 years, 2 months, 9 days. She leaves behind three children, Diana Callinan, Yorba Linda, CA; Doris (Marvin) Schaible, Kirkland, WA; and David (Jacqueline Shawchuck) Bauer; Heil, ND; one sister, Inez Presley of Avon, FL; and a brother, Fred (Helen) of Portland, OR; Ten grandsons, John (Jeanette), Michael (Marilyn), Tim (Lorrie), Christopher (Julie) and Patrick Callinan; Mark (Cyndi), Scott (Kate), Todd (Miranda) Schaible; Steve and Allen Bauer; Twelve great-grandchildren; Stacey, Courtney, Sean and Samantha Callinan; Davin, George, Jennifer Schaible; Brianne (Michael) Gagnon and Orion (Stephanie) Ahrensfeld, Erika, Bret and Cody Bauer, and many nieces and nephews. Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Alvin, son-in-law, John Callinan Jr.; 4 sisters, Bertha Luther, Rose Krause, Helen Diers and Marie Norgren; and a great granddaughter, Jennifer Callinan. His mother, stepfather and brothers, Alec and John and sisters Anna and Marie, had come over earlier and settled at Herrington, Kansas. The following year he went with his brothers to Sugar City, Colorado to find work. He later went to Denver and worked for the Rio Grande Western Railroad. Funeral services for Conrad Meyer were held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Bethune, Tuesday, Feb 26, with Pastor Henry Thorberg officiating. Song selections, "Going Down the Valley: and "Nearer My God to Thee" were sung by the mens' choir. "Take my Hand Dear Father" and "Just as i Am" were sung by the congregation; piano accompaniment was provided by Louise Schlichenmayer. Casket bearers were his grandsons. Honorary casket bearers were Bert Kvestad, Lester Pierson, Dick Rose, Gene Clark, Bud Boyles, Gottlieb Gramm, Bill Yersin, Lester Crist, K.E. Bishop and August Zweygardt. Internment was made in the Immanual [sic] Lutheran Church Cemetery with Hendricks Mortuary in charge. Conrad was born April 5, 1889 to John Fredrick and Anna Marie Meyer at Rosendahl, near Shilling, Russia. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. Conrad came to America with his parents in 1902 to Herrington Kan., prior to moving to Denver. May 7, 1910, he was united in marriage to Margaret Adolf at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. To this union were born seven children. Conrad and his wife spent the six weeks of their married life in Denver where he worked for the Rio Grande Railroad. In 1916 they moved to the farm 9½ miles north of Bethune were they resided until April 6, 1969, when he suffered a stroke and was taken to the Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital. On May 8, 1969, he became a resident of the Grace Manor Nursing Home. One Monday, Feb. 18, he was again taken to the hospital where he passed away Friday morning, Feb. 22. Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers and two sisters, a son, William at the age of 23; a daughter Alma and a son Conrad in infancy. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife; three sons, Reuben, Clord and Norman, all of Bethune and one daughter Mrs. Kenneth (Mabel) Bishop of Burlington; 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. | Meyer, Conrad (I194686)

Her grandsons were casket bearers and burial was at Immanuel Cemetery. Margaret Meyer, daughter of William and Margaret Adolf, was born at Tipliz, Russia, on Aug. 24,1887. She was baptized in the Christian faith in the Lutheran Church and confirmed her faith on May 15, 1902, in the presence of her pastor, Rev. Asmuss. She came to America in August 1908, and lived first in Galveston, Tex. where she worked until November, when she came to Bethune to join her family. Shortly after, she went to Denver to work, and it was there that she met her husband, Conrad Meyer. They were married on May 7, 1910, in Immanuel Lutheran Church of Bethune. They continued to make their home in Denver until 1916, when they moved to the farm 9 1/2 miles north of Bethune. She and her husband farmed for many years, and in April 1972, she entered the Burlington Rest Home. It was there, that she passed from this life on the morning of Jan. 7, 1978 at I the age of 90 years, 4 months and 14 days. Her husband, Conrad, preceded her in death on Feb. 22, 1974. They were life long members of Immanuel Lutheran Church. To their union seven children were born, Reuben, Clord and Norman of Bethune, Mabel Bishop of Burlington, William, who preceded her in death, dying at the young age of 23 years; also two infant children died, Conrad and Alma, and she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters. Johnson, an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away suddenly from a stroke. He was born October 9, 1934 in Bellingham, WA. As one of two boys in the Johnson family, he learned the value of hard work and dedication to family and friends. At age eight he could be found: collecting bottles for money to help out his parents, taking on odd farming jobs and doing construction work for additional cash to donate to families and friends in his community who needed assistance. These strong work ethics and humanitarian values would stick with him for the rest of his life. In 1953, he graduated from Bellingham High and was soon awe struck by a young lady, Meridian High's very own Carnival Queen, Katrina Lee Holt. They married August 3, 1956 and moved to Alger where they built a home and raised five children. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Katrina L. Johnson and their five children: Roderick Allen, Michael Lynn, Randal Scott, Angela Kay and Mark Andrew Johnson and their spouses; 15 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Odin R. and Otilla "Tillie" Johnson; and his brother, Alvin L. Johnson. Baptized in 1951 as a Jehovah's Witness, he served as an Elder in the Burlington congregation. Whether caring for his family, serving his brothers and sisters in the congregation, engaging in the door to door ministry, or donating many hours constructing, remodeling, and inspecting Kingdom Halls in Western and Eastern Washington, his love and dedication for Jehovah God coupled with love for his spiritual and fleshly family is an outstanding example for all. His talents with hammer and nail as learned from his father served him with the privilege of being part of many Kingdom Hall construction projects and also for establishing his own business of Duane Johnson & Sons Construction, Inc. He spent many years building and remodeling homes and businesses in Western Washington. The company continues as a family owned business, now operating for 31 years with son Randal S. Johnson as owner. Retirement - if you could call it that - didn't slow him down, he found projects for all to do at home and at the Kingdom Hall. He never lacked for a list of things that just must be done or directions for how it should be done. With his finger waving and pointing he would say, "just listen to daddy." Well known and loved as an exceptional man, leader, story teller and friend. He will be missed by many. A special thanks to the doctors, nurses and technicians at St. Joseph's Hospital of Bellingham, Washington for making his last moments with us, as comfortable for him and family, as possible.
