He was born on Jan. 15th 1948 in Chicago, Ill. and moved to Needles, Calif. when he was eight years old. He grew up on the Colorado River, which he loved dearly. After graduating with the Needles High School class of 1965, he attended Arizona State University where he became a lifetime Sun Devil fan and a special education teacher. Throughout his career, he pursued his music by writing songs and playing the saxophone and flute. He worked for the Sedona school district for the past 18 years, teaching music, weight lifting and special education. He was a devoted father, husband, son, brother, uncle, musician, teacher, coach and friend. We will all miss his passionate approach to life. He had an electric smile and an engaging personality. | 127866 | www.findagrave.com: www.findagrave.com/memorial/82720819/brenda-kay-achtenberg Funeral services for Brenda Achtenberg, age 47, of Carrington, ND formerly of New Leipzig, ND will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Leipzig, ND. Pastor John Amundson will officiate with burial in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery north of New Leipzig, ND. Brenda Kay Achtenberg was born to Christ and Erma (Kufeldt) Achtenberg on July 2, 1964 in Elgin, ND. Brenda was very active in the New Leipzig school system where she loved playing basketball, being in the band, cheerleading, and running for the track team. Brenda was a very smart woman and graduated at the top of her class in 1982. After graduating she went to Dickenson State College and got her secretarial degree. Brenda was diagnosed with Bipolar not long after graduating college. The disorder really took a toll on her life and the ones she loved as she dealt with "highs" and "lows." Brenda was a very caring person, and when she felt good she was a hard worker who loved to joke around and tried to help out everyone she loved in any way possible. She enjoyed playing games with the elderly and took pride in her four puppies Daisey, Lucey, Scooby, and Micah. During her short time here, Brenda gave birth to three wonderful children, Jed Poulsen (27), adopted by Craig & Sandy Poulsen, and Chelsea (21) & Ryne (19) Meier. Brenda Achtenberg died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at home after a long battle with bipolar illness. Brenda will be missed dearly by her parents, children, family and many friends. She is survived her children Chelsea Meier(fiancee Jesse Jordan),Turtle Lake, ND; Ryne Meier, Bismarck, ND and Jed Poulsen of Arizona; parents Christ and Erma Achtenberg, New Leipzig, ND; sister, Carol Winkler, Elgin, ND; brother Alroy (Joyce) Achtenberg, Fort Rice, ND; special friend Larry Duda, Carrington, ND; nephew, Jesse Achtenberg; neices Sonya (Travis) Johnson, Wanda Block, Karla Block(fiancee Tanner Kahl), and Becky Winkler; great-nephews Dante, Dominic, and Dylan, great-nieces Olivia and D'Lainee;five uncles, seven aunts and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents, five uncles, four aunts, and three cousins. Born to Dan and Anna Rosenau on Jan. 10, 1923, in McClusky, N.D., the family migrated to Hayden Lake, Idaho, in 1931 and later moved to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Elmer graduated from Coeur d'Alene High School in 1940. A veteran of World War II, being inducted into Federal Service with the Idaho National Guards 148th Field Artillery he left for overseas service in November 1941. He served in five campaigns in the Southwest Pacific. Netherlands -- East Indies, North Australia -- Trobriand Islands, New Britain, New Guinea, Leyte, Mindoro and Luzon campaigns. Elmer returned to the U.S. in July 1945. Elmer married Doris Stackhouse-Terrell in November 1950. He worked in the outdoor advertising industry as a bill poster for 38 years posting billboards all over Montana, Idaho, Washington and Oregon and retired in 1985. Elmer enjoyed traveling with his wife, Doris and went to Hawaii numerous times, to Europe on a train trip and many other destinations within the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Elmer was a lifetime member of the Coeur d'Alene Elks Lodge. Elmer was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris; daughter Terrie Terrell - Wilson; mother, father and sisters. He is survived by his brother, Bob Rosenau, Coeur d'Alene; son Richard Terrell, Tampa, Fla.; granddaughters, Michelle Winter, Coeur d'Alene and Suzanne Mize, Federal Way, Wash.; and grandson Nathan Terrell, Tampa, as well as multiple nieces, nephews and six great-grandchildren. | Rosenau, Elmer Dorin (I194125)

The funeral service will be Saturday, December 22, 2007 at 3:00 P.M. at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church, Badger, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Irma Evelyn Unkel was born July 21, 1914 in Hornick, IA. After graduating from High School, she attended Business College in Grand Island, NE where she met Donald M. Fuehrer. They were married September 17, 1939. Donald and Irma moved to Minnesota in 1948 and retired to Big Wolf Lake, near Cass Lake, MN in 1965. After Donald's death in 1993, Irma made her home with her daughter in Badger, MN. Irma will be remembered for her love of gardening, sewing, crafts, playing pinochle with friends, her days at the lake and most of all, her devotion to her family. She is survived by two daughters; Leah Meland, Badger, MN, and Janice (Jim) Harvey, Newport News, VA; one brother, Dean (Phyllis) Unkel, Hornick, IA; one sister, Phyllis Evans, San Diego, CA; four grandchildren, Jimmy (Helen) Harvey and Jeff (Tracy) Harvey, Newport News, VA, Heather Ellingsen, Minnetonka, MN, Jodi (Daniel) Phillips, Fargo, ND; two grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
