125325 | www.findagrave.com: www.findagrave.com/memorial/13542938/anna-harvey Source: Howard County Herald, St. Paul, Nebraska, Wednesday, September 27, 1933, page one, column four. EARLY SETTLER OF HOWARD CO Mrs. Ann Jeffrey Passes Away Saturday Following a Six Week Illness Following an illness that extended back six weeks, death ended the life of Mrs. Ann Jeffery on Saturday, a heart attack being attributed as the cause of her demist. Six weeks ago she suffered from this ailment, but of recent weeks, seemed to be recovering until a short time before death beckoned her. Her last wish was for a postcard so that she might write her son, Will. He was at her bedside at the time but she did not recognize him then. With her passing removes a splendid character from this midst. Retiring and home loving disposition she reared a fine family who remain after her as living monuments of the sterling qualities of a woman who braved the early days of pioneering in this section, suffering much that they might enjoy a happy life. Losing by death a husband at a time when the children were still in tender years, she grasped the situation in an almost hereculean fashion and carried on. At one time she owned 11 eighty acre tracts of land northwest of Farwell. After removing to this city some 18 years ago to take life with greater ease and enjoy more of the comforts of the city, her home was often the scene of happy family gatherings, It was always a haven to all her family when they were in the city. The funeral services in her memory were held at the Presbyterian Church of which she has been a constant attendant, following a brief service at her late home, Monday afternoon at tow o'clock. After the services the remains were tenderly borne to the silent city a few miles south of Farwell and burial made there beside that of her husband who preceded her many years ago. The service and burial was attended largely by her friends and neighbors who came to her bier to pay their last high respects. The Rev. Primrose, her pastor, had charge of the services and spoke feelingly of her character and the good that she brought to this world by living in it. To the roll of the departed pioneers of Howard County another name was added in the passing of Mrs. Ann Jeffery at her home in St. Paul, Nebr, Saturday afternoon A native of Haddingtonshire, Scotland, born May 23, 1853, Ann Hadden, one of eight children in the family of James and Ann Brown Hadden came to America in 1856 and lived in Milton, Wisconsin and vicinity until united in marriage to James Harvey of Rock Prarie, Wis. In 1878. Three years later they moved to Nebraska to a farm near Farwell. Early in life she united with United Presbyterian Church in Rock Prarie, Wis. In the days of her strength she was tiring in a life of service for those of her household and outside and her sorrow in those few weeks of illness had been that she no longer could do the biddings of a loving heart and ready hand. She was stricken with a heart attack a few weeks ago, passes away at the age of 80 years, 4 months. She was preceded in death by her husband May 20, 1902 and by one daughter Annie Louise in 1893. In 1906 Mrs Harvey was united in marriage of Wm Jeffery of Ashton, Nebr. Mr. Jeffery passed away in 1909. Mrs Jeffery then moved to Farwell, Nebr where she has resided 14 years. Surviving here are seven children, James A. Harvey of Farwell, William G. of Omaha, Mrs. Isabel Johansen of Farwell, Mrs. John Gibson of St Paul, Robert G. Harvey of Gering and Mrs. Wm Moeller of Dannebrog, Nebr. Twenty-one grandchildren and nine great grandchildren also survive. | Hadden, Anna (I210865)
