125274 | www.findagrave.com: www.findagrave.com/memorial/13332831/christina-gliem Christina was born in Saxe Weimar by Isnacht, Germany. She married to Johannes "John" W. Gliem in 1841, and immigrated to America in 1850. Christina bore eight children: Julia Ann (B. Dec. 12, 1841 - D. Mar. 2, 1931) Adam (B. 1843 - D. 1851); Elizabeth (B. Jan. 12, 1845); Margarethe (B. Mar. 6, 1848); Phoebe (B. Jan. 21, 1853); Sarah (B. Nov. 18, 1855); Christina (B. Mar. 12, 1859); & Louisa (B. May 1861). The Gliem family came to America with a large group of German immigrants. In 1851, they landed in New Orleans and came up the Mississippi to Fort Des Moines, IA Territory. In the spring of 1857, the family drove a team of oxen to Kansas where they preempted a claim and purchased a farm located one-half mile east of Arrington. Gliem family purchased the farm land at a sale held in Ozawskie, KS. Christina was injured when she was about 50 year old. She was thrown from a wagon when the horses bolted and she had a fractured pelvis. She remained in bed all that winter. She was handicapped and walked with cane the rest of her life. During late years of life, she longed for her release and as she wished, death icy fingers touched her while she slept, and her slumber became the long last dreamless sleep. She passed away on Friday morning at three o' clock and thirty minutes, Feb. 26, 1896, aged 78 years, 6 months and two days. Twenty-six great grandchildren, thiry-seven grandchildren, seven daughters, and her husband are left to mourn. Our loss is her gain, and we would not, if we could, call her back to this world of pain and sorrow. Note: Tombstone refers to date of death as Feb. 26, 1897, the above obituary refers to Feb. 26, 1896. | Schaeffer, Christina (I209998)
