Brandfass, of 520 North Seventh Street, has received a message from Wheeling, announcing the death of his uncle Chas. F. Brandfass at the Ohio Valley hospital in that city on Wednesday morning as the result of a fatal injury received on September 2nd. Mr. Brandfass, who was a prominent business man and president of the Brandfass Tobacco Co., was walking from his business house to his home, 529 Main Street. He had passed Fifth Street when a boy climbed into an electric car parked at the top of the Main Street Hill and released the breaks. The car started down the hill, jumped the curb and struck Mr. Brandfass. He was removed to the hospital and died from his injuries. He was 71 years of age and leaves a wife and seven children. Mr. and Mrs. Brandfass contaminate leaving in the morning for Wheeling to attend the funeral services at his late home at 3:00 p. m. Rev. w. G. He was preceded in death by his father. the Daily Plainsman, Huron, Beadle, SD dated 13 Mar 1977, p. 6, c. 6 Melvin N. Fischer, 46, Ohio township, died Friday in the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, where he had been for treatment for some time before his death. Funeral rites were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, March 15, in the Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. David Belzer officiating. Burial was in the GAR Cemetery. Pallbearers were Eldon Moser, Craig Wharton, Don Ames, James Purrington, Robert Moser and Gene Grabin. Mr. Fischer was born January 11, 1931 at Highmore, the son of Mr. and Mrs. (*Marie Bertha Eisenbraun*) Emanuel Fischer. He attended school in Highmore. He served with the Marine Corps and lived in the Los Angeles area from 1952 at Yuma, Ariz. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church in Miller, the Rev. Hume Ward officiating. Pallbearers were Eldon Moser, Robert Moser, Myrle Auch, Darrell Heckenliable, Dale Oakley and Leonoard Oakley. Mr. Fischer was born December 8, 1902, and spent his childhood near Tripp. He was married in 1926 to Marie Eisenbraun, and they were the parents of six children. He made his home at Highmore for some time, and more recently came to Miller to make his home. He was a member of the German Reform church of Highmore. Surviving his death are two daughters, Mrs. Mel Bitterman and Mrs. Richard Oakley of Miller, and four sons, Leonard, Rapid City, Milvin, Highmore, Marlin and Bennie, Miller. She was born in Bavaria, Germany in 1849, and came to this country at the age of 5 years with her parents, Mr.a and Mrs. Adam Gertler. She spent her youth on the home farm near Lewisville, Ohio. Catherine married Louis in 1879. He died August 9, 1911. Eleven children was born to them; four preceded their parents in death; surviving children are: Mrs. Philip Rhines, Fred Kahrig, Philip Kahrig, Mrs. Freda Wehr, Mrs. Gus Kilburn, Henry Kahrig and Mrs. Henry Kilburn; one brother, Adam Gertler of Ozark, Ohio; and one sister, Louisa Gertler of Beallsville, Ohio. Mrs. Kahrig was a member of the German Lutheran Church all her life. Funeral services were held at the Evangelical Church and was conducted by the Reverend E. Seybold. She was born near Lewisville, August 19, 1896, a daughter of the late Henry and Catherine Kahrig Kilburn. She was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ near Lewisville. Mrs. Neibch was preceded in death by her first husband, LeRoy Claus and her second husband Edwin Neibch, along with two brothers, Charles and Homer Kilburn. Surviving are two sons, Bernard Claus of Kent, Washington and Floyd Claus of Salem; one daughter, Elvira Stimpert of Lewisville; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Friends were received at the Waters Funeral Home, Woodsfield, September 25 where funeral services were held at 1.p.m. September with Doctor Reverend Gary Wilson of the Trinity United Church of Christ officiating. Burial followed in the Middle Church Cemetery near Lewisville. 123522 | www.findagrave.com: www.findagrave.com/memorial/10329430/gustav-freidrich-kilburn Gustav Frederick Kilburn was born in Summit Township, Monroe County, on June 13, 1873, the son of John Henry and Marie Linge Kilburn, and departed this life at his home in Lewisville of April 16, 1955 at the age of 81 years, ten months and three days. Through Baptism he became a member of St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed Church, and at the age of thirteen he was received through the vows of Confirmation. On March 3, 1896 he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Kahrig by the Rev. J. R. Muller. To this union were born five children. One child, Lydia, preceded him in death in 1919. Those who survive him are Mrs. Freeman Christman and Freeman Kilburn, of Lewisville, Route 1; William Kilburn, of Cambridge, and Mrs. Sylvia Shull of Atwater, Ohio. Also surviving are one brother, Henry Kilburn, of Lewisville, Route 1, and one sister, Mrs. Lucetta Kochart, of Woodsfield. There are also fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. This past March Mr. Kilburn and his wife were privileged to celebrate their fifty-ninth wedding anniversary. His entire life was lived in this church community where he farmed with his family. It is worth noting the outstanding service he gave his community thru his church where over a period of forty years he was the custodian of this church. Because some records have been lost it is impossible to tell just exactly how many years he did serve. But those who remember his faithful devotion to his job will remember with thanksgiving the joy he found in keeping the House of the Lord spotless and clean for those who worshipped here. Short services were held in the Bauer and Turner Funeral Chapel, Woodsfield on Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock, with additional services at 2:00 o’clock in St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed Church at Middle Church. On March 27, 1894, she was united in marriage with Henry Kilburn, and to this union three children were born: Homer, Mrs. Anna Claus and Charles, all of the vicinity of Lewisville. In addition to the bereaved husband and three children, she leaves to morn her departure, eight grandchildren, three of whom are in the service of the United States Army; Bernard and Floyd Claus, and Clyde Kilburn; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Kilburn, of Lewisville, and Mrs. Freda Boldt, of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, Philip Kahrig, of Lewisville and Fred Kahrig, of Woodsfield, Ohio, besides several nieces and nephews and a host of relatives, friends and neighbors. At an early age she was confirmed at St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed Church of Summit township, Monroe County, near Lewisville and remained a faithful member through her entire life. She was a woman who loved her home and was very devoted to her family. He and his brother were the third generation of the family to operate the meat market. He served in World War II with the U. S. Navy. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Brubach, two sons, Michael and Frederick L. Jr., both of Mansfield; two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Patricia) Stimpert of Ashland, and Mrs. Duane (Kay) Utiss of Mansfield; 11 grandchildren; one brother, William of Mansfield; one sister, Mrs. Jane Russell of Mansfield. Visitation will be Thursday at Mundwiler Funeral Home from 5 – 7 p.m. and continue Friday, one hour prior to the service. Delores Doris Christian was born December 24, 1927, on the family farm south of Milbank, SD. She was the daughter of Christ and Rose (Damerow) Christian. Delores was baptized on January 24, 1928, at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Milbank, and confirmed in April of 1943. She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church for 65 plus years. Delores attended rural school at Alban #3, Grant County and attended Milbank High School for two years. She earned her GED in 1973. She was united in marriage with Gerald Oehler on December 31, 1944, at Emanuel Lutheran Church. The couple farmed together for 46 years in Alban Township. Delores was a 4-H member in her growing years and a 4-H leader for 24 years. Delores was a member of the Jolly Madison Extension Club for 49 years, serving as an officer for the club, county, and district levels. She served as a state officer for the South Dakota Holstein Association and served on the Alban School Board. Delores enjoyed sewing all her life. She did a lot of sewing for others, as well as enjoyed the relaxation it gave her. Delores was an avid gardener with a "green thumb." She raised a huge garden on the farm, canning and preserving the food for winter. Delores took special pride and delight in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Delores was united in marriage on June 7, 1992, with Lyle Jay Haglund in Sioux Falls, SD. They lived in Adrian, MN and in Milbank. They later lived on Big Stone Lake. They attended American Lutheran Church in Milbank. Delores is survived by four children: Roger (Mary) Oehler of Ortonville, MN; Jeanne (Larry) Tietjen of Stockholm, SD; Sheila (Frank) Tschakert of Florence, SD; and Craig (Lori) Oehler of Sioux Falls, SD; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one sister Phyllis Henze of Milbank, SD; one brother Jim Christian of Milbank, SD; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and other relatives and friends. In 1843, in Germany, she united in marriage to Henry Claus, Sr., and they shared each other=s joys and sorrows for fifty-eight years. In the year 1847 they came to America and made their home near Monroefield, Ohio and became members of the Miltonsburg Evangelical Church, Miltonsburg, Ohio. They had two sons born in Germany - Justus and ( Casper, who died while crossing the ocean.) The other children (born here) were Elizabeth, Henry, Adolph, and Fredrick. She took sick about the 24th day of June, and died on Sunday morning, July 7, 1901. She leaves her husband, five children, 34 grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. Mr. Claus was born February 15, 1818, in Hessia, the son of Johannes (John) and Katharina Kuhlman Claus. On May 25, 1843, in Germany, he entered the state of matrimony with Elizabeth Ackerman, the daughter of Adam Ackerman and Katharina Kaul Ackerman from Herlefeld, Germany. Elizabeth was born February 7, 1819, in Hannasfield, Spanixburg, Hastelcastel, Germany and died July 7, 1901. In 1847, immigrated to America, and settled in Miltonsburg, Monroe County, Ohio. The union was blessed with six children, five sons and one daughter. One son, Casper Claus died at sea on the way to America. Four sons, Adolph, Justice, Frederick, and Henry, and one daughter, Mrs. Andrew (Elizabeth) Reich, thirty-five grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren mourn the loss of the departed. Father Claus had suffered for a long time and was called to his eternal rest on Wednesday, October 12th. The interment took place on Friday, October 14 in the Miltonsburg cemetery, Miltonsburg, Ohio, with the Reverend F. A. Meusch having charge of the services. His wife, Elizabeth is buried there also.
