Martha Rothman, 89, of Greeley died Tuesday, June 11, at Bonell Good Samaritan Center.
She was born Jan 29, 1907, in New Norka, Russia, to Phillip and Katherine (Mehling) Hamburger. She immigrated with her family to Winnipeg, Canada, in 1913 and later from Canada to the United States on Feb 25, 1920.
On March 21, 1930, she married Jacob Rothman in La Salle. The couple farmed with Mrs. Rothman’s parents in an area immediately south of Gering, Neb. The Rothmans moved to a farm near Hardin in 1936, to another site west of Peckham and then to southeast of La Salle. During the spring of 1940, they began faming east of Kuner, where they continued until their retirement from farming in 1960. After retirement, the Rothmans purchased a home in the Hillside area of Greeley, where they lived until Mr. Rothman’s death on Oct. 28, 1979. Since then, Mrs. Rothman has lived at Longmeadows Apartments, the Greeley Place and a private
board-and-care home.
Mrs. Rothman was a longtime member of the La Salle Baptist Church.
Survivors are two daughters, Nancy Genoways of Minitare, Neb., Barbara Weibeihaus of Greeley; a son, Elmer Rothman of Greeley; a sister, Katherine Hill of Sacramento, Calif.; four brother, Jona Hamburger of Fort Morgan, Fred Hamburger of Cheyenne, LeRoy Hamburger of Mount Sinai, N.Y., and Sam Hamburger of Gering, Neb.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A daughter, Eleanor Rothman; a granddaughter, Ashley Jones; a sister, Mary Evans; and two
brothers, Rueben and Joe Hamburger, are deceased.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Friends may visit until 8 p.m. today at the Allnutt Funeral Service Macy Chapel.
