Mom was born as Violet Seibel, the fourth child of Conrad and Sophia Seibel on January 27, 1920 in McClusky, North Dakota. She passed away on December 13, 2008 following a brief illness, at the age of 88.
Raised on a farm with her eight siblings, she learned independence, a strong belief in God and a good work ethic.
She met Arthur W. Bauer, whom she married in 1937 and where they farmed grain and livestock. She bore and raised four children: Artis, Varene, Bethellen (Betsy), and Randal.
In 1951, they moved to Lodi where Art was busy in construction and Vi started working at the Woolworth Department Stores eventually becoming floor manager. After many years, she left that position to manage the Arden Dress Shop. All her working life she dealt with people, and due to her gregarious nature, made many friends. When Arden closed, she retired and she and Art had a very nice, but short period of retirement together.
Art passed away in 1976 and to keep busy, she joined Tokay Bowling Leagues. She became a pretty good bowler winning numerous trophies and plaques. During this time, with her bowling competition she visited 28 different states. Also during this time she met many new friends which introduced her to a new adventure, ocean cruising and international travel. She was a member of Vinewood Community Church in Lodi, and The Lodi 50-Plus Chub.
In the later part of her life, she moved to The Ashley Place, where she again made new friends, played piano for other tenants and attended the daily bingo games. We wish to thank the staff at Ashley Place for making her stay there most enjoyable.
Vi was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Art and two daughters, Artis Schnabel and Betsy Wilton.
Surviving her are her two other children, daughter Varene Teresi and her husband, John, and son, Randy and his wife, Angie. Also surviving her is brother, Leroy and his wife, Charlotte; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 19th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Vinewood Community Church, 1900 W. Vine Street, at Mills Avenue, Lodi, Pastor Dwight Friesen officiating. Committal will follow in the Garden of Gospels at Cherokee Memorial Park, Lodi.
Visitation will be held at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home, 831 Industrial Way, near Beckman Road, on Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 17 and 18, from 1:00 8:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be given in Violet's memory to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, P.O. Box 97104, Washington, DC 20090-7104.
Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
