Fred was born in Mcpherson County of SD and was a small boy when his family moved to a farm northeast of McLaughlin, SD where they lived for a short time. When he was 11 the family moved into McLaughlin where he has lived since then. Fred worked at farm work and later worked on the railroad. He helped run the family dray line and in 1946 he went into partnership with his brother Emil in Jundt's Standard Station in McLaughlin. From then on he spent most of the time at the station, opening early and closing late. Fred took over the complete operation of the station in 1962 until 1990 when he retired.
