    Reuben Meyer was born July 13, 1917, to Conrad and Margaret (Adolf) Meyer on the family farm north of Bethune. He was baptized in the Christian faith on July 17, 1917 by Pastor Gus Adolph at Immanuel Lutheran Church and was confirmed on May 14, 1933 by Rev. H. L. Woelber.
    Reuben received his schooling in the country schools through the 8th grade.
    Reuben was married to Amelia Beringer on Sept. 7, 1939 at Salem Lutheran Church near St. Francis, Kan., by Rev. 0. H. Zielinger.
    To this union one son, Jerry, was born. Alma Beringer came to live with them at a young age on May 16, 1942.
    Reuben and Amelia celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sept. 7, 1989. He was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served on several committees.
    Reuben was a farmer and rancher and raised Hereford cattle for many years. Working with cattle was his pride and joy. He raised wheat, corn and feed for the cattle. Reuben was in partnership with his brothers for many years and was a hard worker.
    Reuben enjoyed sports. He was a player and manager of the Settlement Hawks baseball team for several years. He liked music and played the harmonica for his enjoyment and especially liked playing with his son and others that came to the house.
    He was a loving husband, father and family man and always enjoyed visiting with his friends, neighbors and relatives.
    Reuben was in poor health for a number of years. He entered Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital several times in the last six weeks, the last time on Friday, Feb. 20. He suffered a stroke on Wednesday evening and passed away on Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998.
    He leaves to mourn his loving wife Amelia, son Jerry; daughter Alma Beringer; brother Clord and wife Clara all of Bethune; sister Mabel Bishop of Burlington; sisters-in-law Doris Meyer of Bethune and LaVera Beringer of St. Francis, Kan.; three aunts - Martha Adolf, Nettie Hasart and Frieda Weisshaar, all of Burlington; and one very special adopted granddaughter, Connie Reynolds of Burlington; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and a host of friends.
    Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers Bill, Conrad and Norman; and sister Alma in infancy.
    Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 3, 1998, 10:30 a.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Bethune with Pastor, Dianne Dietz officiating Congregational songs included a German hymn "Gott Ist die Liebe," "Just As I Am" and "I'll Fly Away." Pianist was Carla Foth
    Pallbearers were Erick Meyer, Larry Beringer, Ralph Adolf, Junior Weisshaar, Harold Eisenbart and Bob Todd.
    Honorary pallbearers were Albert Weiss, Ralph Stahlecker, David Guy, Ernie McArthur, Harold Weisshaar, Danny Weiss, Ernie Cure, Ray Boyd, Sr., Allan Weiss, Joe Bohnen, Howard Homm, Ed Cure, Arnold Strobel and Milbert Beringer.
    Burial was in Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in Reuben's name and may be left at Immanuel Lutheran Church or First National Bank of Stratton.
    Arrangements were by Hendricks-Love Mortuary of Burlington.

    Conrad Meyer came to America in 1902 from Russia at the age of thirteen with his older brother George. His mother, stepfather and brothers, Alec and John and sisters Anna and Marie, had come over earlier and settled at Herrington, Kansas. The following year he went with his brothers to Sugar City, Colorado to find work. He later went to Denver and worked for the Rio Grande Western Railroad.

    Funeral services for Conrad Meyer were held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Bethune, Tuesday, Feb 26, with Pastor Henry Thorberg officiating. Song selections, "Going Down the Valley: and "Nearer My God to Thee" were sung by the mens' choir. "Take my Hand Dear Father" and "Just as i Am" were sung by the congregation; piano accompaniment was provided by Louise Schlichenmayer. Casket bearers were his grandsons. Honorary casket bearers were Bert Kvestad, Lester Pierson, Dick Rose, Gene Clark, Bud Boyles, Gottlieb Gramm, Bill Yersin, Lester Crist, K.E. Bishop and August Zweygardt. Internment was made in the Immanual [sic] Lutheran Church Cemetery with Hendricks Mortuary in charge.
    Conrad was born April 5, 1889 to John Fredrick and Anna Marie Meyer at Rosendahl, near Shilling, Russia. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. Conrad came to America with his parents in 1902 to Herrington Kan., prior to moving to Denver. May 7, 1910, he was united in marriage to Margaret Adolf at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. To this union were born seven children.
    Conrad and his wife spent the six weeks of their married life in Denver where he worked for the Rio Grande Railroad. In 1916 they moved to the farm 9½ miles north of Bethune were they resided until April 6, 1969, when he suffered a stroke and was taken to the Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital. On May 8, 1969, he became a resident of the Grace Manor Nursing Home. One Monday, Feb. 18, he was again taken to the hospital where he passed away Friday morning, Feb. 22.
    Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers and two sisters, a son, William at the age of 23; a daughter Alma and a son Conrad in infancy. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife; three sons, Reuben, Clord and Norman, all of Bethune and one daughter Mrs. Kenneth (Mabel) Bishop of Burlington; 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

    Funeral services for Mrs. Conrad Meyer were held Monday, Jan. 9, at 1:30 p.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Bethune with Rev. Howard Jacobson presiding.
    The men's choir of the church provided two musical selections, accompanied at the piano, by Karen Ziegler. Her grandsons were casket bearers and burial was at Immanuel Cemetery.
    Margaret Meyer, daughter of William and Margaret Adolf, was born at Tipliz, Russia, on Aug. 24,1887. She was baptized in the Christian faith in the Lutheran Church and confirmed her faith on May 15, 1902, in the presence of her pastor, Rev. Asmuss.
    She came to America in August 1908, and lived first in Galveston, Tex. where she worked until November, when she came to Bethune to join her family. Shortly after, she went to Denver to work, and it was there that she met her husband, Conrad Meyer. They were married on May 7, 1910, in Immanuel Lutheran Church of Bethune.
    They continued to make their home in Denver until 1916, when they moved to the farm 9 1/2 miles north of Bethune. She and her husband farmed for many years, and in April 1972, she entered the Burlington Rest Home. It was there, that she passed from this life on the morning of Jan. 7, 1978 at I the age of 90 years, 4 months and 14 days.
    Her husband, Conrad, preceded her in death on Feb. 22, 1974.
    They were life long members of Immanuel Lutheran Church. To their union seven children were born, Reuben, Clord and Norman of Bethune, Mabel Bishop of Burlington, William, who preceded her in death, dying at the young age of 23 years; also two infant children died, Conrad and Alma, and she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.
    She is survived by three sons, one daughter, 3 brothers, William Adolf of Tigard, Ore., John Adolf of Bethune, and Chris Adolf of Burlington; 2 sisters, Nettie Hasart and Frieda Weisshaar of Burlington, 12 grandchildren, 14 great grand-children and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
