Church was a very important part of Emilia Schweigert's life as a member of the First Baptist Church of Mobridge. She was the Laides Aid secretary and treasurer for a number of years. Schweigert was faithful at being in church every Sunday morning Sunday school and Wednesday night prayer meetings.
A friendly woman, she was also involved in Gray Ladies, Senior Citizens and Women's Missionary Circle. Her many hobbies included quilting, crocheting, knitting and reading.
Schweigert, 97, died on July 17, 2004 at the Beverly Health Care Center in Mobridge.
She was born on December 6, 1906, in Dickey Count, ND to Ludwig and Katherina (Steinhuelf) Dietterle. When her mother passed away in 1917, leaving six children behind with the youngest only two years old, she had to quit school to help at home.
In the spring of 1919 her family moved to McLaughlin to a farm 9 miles north east of town.
Five years later she married Benjamin Quenzer, and they stayed on the farm until 1928 when they moved into McLaughlin to raise their own children. She spent many years working at Slater's Super Value.
Schweigert lost her first husband in 1949 and married Jacob Schweigert later that fall. With her new husband semi-retired from his business, Schweigert Chevy Garage, the two spent a lot of time traveling and enjoying life.
After losing her second husband in 1964 she worked at the C&V Variety store in McLaughlin for a number of years and then moved to Mobridge in October of 1979. She spent the last 25 years as a resident here in town.
..She is survived by three daughters: Helen (Connie) Dietrich of Mobridge, Lorraine (Herman) Oster of Mobridge, and Dorothy (Bob) Logue of Alamo, Texas; one sister-in-law Tillie Dietterle of Mobridge, 17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Both of her husbands, three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death
