    Notes:
The Freeman Courier - Peter J. Graber, died 06/30/12
Peter (Pete) J. Graber, 91, of Freeman, S.D., passed away on June 30, 2012, at Oakview Terrace Nursing Home, Freeman, after a long battle with cancer.
Pete was welcomed into the family of Jonathan and Louisa Graber on Aug. 17, 1920. He was the youngest of six children: Elsie (Duerkson), Silas, Waldo, Claudia (Gering) and Wilbert, all deceased. He was the last of the Jonathan "Z?ngele" Graber family. Pete spent his whole life in the Freeman community doing what he loved the most - farming on the farmstead that was homesteaded by his grandfather. He "retired" from the farm at age 88. He led a content life dedicated to stewardship of the land, his family and the Salem-Zion Mennonite Church.
Pete married Caroline (Carrie or Suzie as he often called her) Suzanne Nusz from Menno, S.D., on May 18, 1945. Caroline was attending Freeman Jr. College when she caught his eye singing in the college choir. The rest is history. They spent 67 years together working side-by-side on the farm and providing a loving home for four children: Patricia (Don) Gross, Madison, S.D., Steve (Linda), Freeman, Beth (Monte) McIntyre, LaCrosse, Wis., Amy (Kevin) McNabb, Minneapolis, Minn. He continued to share his love with his 10 grandchildren: Marc Gross, deceased (Jennifer Gross Nash), Jennifer (Jason) Maxwell, Matthew (Kathryn) Gross, Polly (Kyle) Waltner, Lacey (Lance) Friesen, Daniel (Tina) Graber, Jonathan Graber, Carrie McIntyre, Pete McNabb, Cate McNabb; and seven great-grandchildren.
Pete was active not only in his church where he sang in the tenor section of the men's chorus for 65 years, taught Sunday school and was on the board of trustee's, but also in the community working on various boards - Freeman Jr. College, Salem Home and Freeman Farmer's Coop. And, even after a hard day on the farm in his younger years you would often find him pitching softball for the "North Pa's" or attending sports events in the community.
His memory as a loving husband, father and grandfather will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. Pete will be remembered in the community as a kind and caring person -ready to help those in need and always there with a smile and hand shake.
A special thanks to all of you for the prayers, thoughts and support you gave our family during the past several months. A special thank you to Dr. Kirton, Oakview Terrance nursing home and the Hospice staff and volunteers
