    Harold Sterling Anderson, 77, of Belt, a professor emeritus of the University of Great Falls, died of cancer Sunday June 11, 2006 at a Great Falls hospital.
    Harold was born September 24, 1928, in Bethel, CT, to Harold and Mabelle (Nelson) Anderson. He was raised near McVille, ND, where he graduated from high school. He earned a BS in science from Mayville State College in 1951, a MA in science education in 1954 and an Education Doctorate in the field of education in 1957 from Northern Colorado University at Greeley, CO. He married the love of his life, Margaretha Gall, in 1950 while at Mayville State College, ND. To this union, were born two sons, Steve and Dave.
    He served in the Army from 1951 to 1953 at Camp Breckenridge, KY. He taught one year at Central Washington Sate College in Ellensburg, WA, eight years at Southern State Teachers College in Springfield, SD, four years with Columbia University (AID) at the university in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, Africa, and completed his teaching career with 25 years at the University of Great Falls. His work was in teacher education and as director of graduate studies at UGF.
    Hunting was an important part of his life. While in Africa, he went on many safaris.
    Since 1970 he resided on the A-Y Ranch on Otter Creek. After retiring he spent his time developing an apple orchard of over 100 trees with about 50 varieties of apples. He grafted apple scions for many friends. He also wrote a book and enjoyed participating in cowboy poetry.
    He was preceded in death by a son, Steve, and his parents.
    Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Margaretha Anderson of Belt; a son, Dave Robert (Trisha) of Belt; a sister, Rebecca Jones (Allen) of Clancy, Montana; a brother, Robert (Aletta) of Bemidji, MN; brothers-in-law Alfred (Carol) Gall of Hawley, MN, Ronald (Loretta) Gall of Wishek, ND, Earl (Dee Anne) Gall of Ellendale, ND, Paul (Donna) Gall of Ashley, ND, Edward (Virginia) Gall of Mandan, ND; many nieces and nephews and a special stepgrandchild, Talisha Grimsrud.
    Burial in Pleasant View Cemetery in Belt.
