At the time of his death he was colonel of the militia. He married I. Catherine Taliaferro; II Elizabeth Smith. That his second wife was a daughter of Major Lawrence Smith is proved by a deed recorded in Essex, February 1707-8. The legatees of his will were his wife Elizabeth, his sons, John, who was under seven years at the time of the will: Hay, Lawrence, and Nicholas, and his daughter Elizabet
