    Jamestown Sun, Jamestown, ND, 23 Aug 1846.
    John A. Bitz, Cleveland, died suddenly early this morning at Trinity hospital where he had been a patient for several hours after suffering a heart attack at his home. Mr. Bitz was born in Scotland, SD, June 10, 1888. He came to ND in 1899, first to Medina where he lived until his marriage, and then to a farm north of Cleveland. Mr. and Mrs. Bitz moved to Cleveland two years ago. John Bitz and Miss Katherine Harr were married in Jamestown March 10, 1913. He was a member of the Medina Seventh-day Adventist church and was a supervisor in Spring Valley Township when he lived there. Survivors are his widow; a son, Wilbur, and two daughters, Ethel and Virginia Bitz, Cleveland, and a daughter, Mrs. Daniel Gross, Carrington; and the following brothers and sisters; George Bitz, Jamestown; William Bitz, Mrs. Christ Hust and Mrs. Gust Henz, Medina; Mrs. Andrew Peterson, LaPorte, IN and Mrs. Milton Brandt, Carrington

    Mrs. Johanna Peterson, 86, Jamestown, died Tuesday at Jamestown Hospital. She had been in failing health for several months.. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.. Mrs. Peterson was born Sept. 30, 1891, in Scotland, SD, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Bitz. She came to ND with her parents as a young girl and the family settled north of Medina. She and Charles D. Harr were married in Jamestown in 1909 and moved to a farm near Woodworth. She returned to Medina following his death in November, 1918. In 1937 she moved to MN and was married there to Andrew Peterson in October 1942, at Park Rapids. The couple resided at LaPorte, MN. Mr. Peterson died in January, 1963. Mrs. Peterson returned to Jamestown in 1975 where the home had been since.. Survivors include a son, Benjamin Harr, Minneapolis, MN, three daughters, Mrs. William Ricakrd (Orva), Butte, MT, Mrs. Ervin Boehm (Viola), Glasgow, MT, and Mrs. Earl Stoddart (Irene), Jamestown; a sister, Mrs. Gustave Hins (Martha), Medina; ten grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Her parents, two sons, three brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.

Ethel Bitz was born June 16, 1917, north of Cleveland, ND, the daughter of John and Katherina (Harr) Bitz. she received her elementary education in the local rural school later attending Sheyenne River Academy, Harvey, ND. She then attended Valley City (ND) State College, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught school in Stutsman and Kidder counties. She married John B. "Byron" Gallagher April 9, 1949, at Cleveland. They lived in Pnegree, ND, until moving to Jamestown in 1984. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Jamestown, and VFW Auxiliary, Carrington; and a lifetime member of the DAV. She is survived by her husband; a son, Bruce (Nancy), Jamestown; a sister, Virginia Job, Jamestown; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and a great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a sister

    Funeral services for Wilbur Edmund Bitz of Bismarck, former resident of the Cleveland community.. Mr. Bitz died Friday in St. Alexis Hospital, Bismarck, after apparently suffering a heart attack. Born Jan. 7, 1922, in Valley Springs Township, Stutsman County, Mr. Bitz was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Bitz. He attended school in Valley Springs Township, was graduated from Sheyenne River Academy at Harvey, and attended Union College in Lincoln, NE, for two years. He worked with his parents on their farm north of Cleveland for a time. In 1952 he began work with the Northern Pacific Railway in the storeroom at Jamestown, and later worked at Dilworth, MN, for a time. For the past 12 years he had been employed with the railroad, now the Burlington Northern, in Bismarck and Mandan as a car clerk. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Mr. Bitz is survived by five children, Gary Bitz, Bismarck; Wilbur Jr., Greg and Steven Bitz, and Mrs. Marion Hanje (Kathy), all of Denver, CO; his mother, Mrs. Katherine Bitz, Jamestown; five grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Reuben Job (Virginia), Jamestown; Mrs. Daniel Gross (Laura), carrington, and Mrs. Byron Gallagher (Ethel), Pingree

Janice Lee Landscoot died on 22 May 2004 at Terrell, Kaufman Co., Texas, at age 64. Janice Lee Thompson, age 64, entered into eternal peace with her beloved sister, Gayle Skaar on May 22, 2004.After becoming a 1957 Jamestown High School graduate, her life became filled with marriages, moves and children. By the time she moved to Wyoming, she was busy with a brood of five. She was a woman of many talents that stretched the course of the alphabet from applique', cooking, crocheting, knitting, quilting and sewing to name only a few. She eventually moved back to North Dakota and then to Texas, where she decided to add a new dimension to her life with a career in payroll and accounts payable. Upon retirement, she enjoyed the peace and calm of country living where she would tend her garden, read books or work on a quilt.
    All will miss her, including those who call her Mom: David Klund, Timothy Klundt, Vicki Gelmer, Scott Klundt and Pamela Klundt; her eight grandchildren, her sister and five nephews; one niece and her mother as well as many friends that she crossed paths with during the course of her life. She has left behind that cherish the legacy of her gifts and talents.
    A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2004 at 4 p.m. at Flower Mound Family Funeral Home in Flower Mound, Texas. The Rev. Mike Danchak will officiate the service in remembering Janice with her sister, Gayle Skaar.1
