    Mrs. Annabel Steinhoff died Friday noon, September 30 at the age of 57 years 10 months and 6 days.
    She was born in Woodsfield, Ohio and came to Hornick at the age of 7 years.
    She was married to Jacob C. Steinhoff on March 2, 1897. Two daughters, Ada of Hornick, and Mrs. Leland Sholles of Council Bluffs were born to this union.
    Internment was made in Grace cemetery Monday, October 3.

    Mrs. T. F. Steinhoff passed away Wednesday
    The word of the death of Mrs. Theodore Steinhoff at her home in Onawa on Wednesday afternoon of this week cast a pall of sorrow over the entire community. Mrs. Steinhoff contracted pneumonia which together with a complications of which she had been a sufferer the past two years proved too much for her weakened condition.
    Mrs. Steinhoff is a sister of Mrs. Jake Steinhoff of this city and also a sister of John and Jacob Unkel farmers near this city. She was born and raised in this community and enjoyed a very wide acquaintance who extend sympathy to the husband and two small children, a daughter seven years old and a son five.
    Funeral services will probably be held on Saturday at the German City church of which she has been a life long member.
    Freda Elizabeth Steinhoff was born at Hornick, Iowa in 1892 and died at Onawa, Iowa Aril 18, 1928. Death was caused by influenza which developed into pneumonia.
    She was christened in infancy in the Evangelical German Lutheran church and confirmed in the same in 1911 at German City, Woodbury County. She was married to Theo. Steinhoff October 1, 1914 to which union were born three children, Fern Elizabeth, age 7, Wayne Charles, aged 5, one child having died in infancy.
    Besides her husband and two children Mrs. Steinhoff leaves to mourn her death four brothers, Jake, Wm., John and Earl Unkel and four sisters, Mrs. Anna Steinhoff, Mrs. Jim White, Mrs. Clarence Weber, and Mrs. Jake Diest, all living in or near Hornick.
    Mrs. Steinhoff was of a cheery disposition and free from complaining.
    Funeral services were held from the Methodist church at Hornick on April 22 conducted by Rev. Wm. Zabilka pastor of the Methodist church at Onawa. Interment was made in the German City cemetery in Woodbury county.

    Ada Ann Steinhoff, 89, long-time resident of Hornick, Iowa died Thursday, June 25, 1992 at Countryside Retirement Home in Sioux City, Iowa after a lengthy illness.
    Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 29 at the Christy Morningside Funeral Home, with the Rev. Walter Enstrom of St. John’s Evangelical Church in German City, Iowa officiating. Burial was in Graceland Park Cemetery in Sioux City.
    Miss Steinhoff was born September 25, 1902, near Hornick, Iowa, the daughter of Jacob and Anna Belle (Unkel) Steinhoff. Her family moved from their country home into Hornick in 1927. She enlisted in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps in Des Moines in December 1942, and was honorably discharged in May 1943. She moved to Countryside Retirement Home in May 1987.
    She was baptized and confirmed in St. John’s Evangelical Church and remained a life-long member. She joined the Gertrude Rebekah Lodge #553 at Hornick in 1930 and remained a member until they disbanded in 1963. She rose to the rank of a past noble grand member of the degree team.
    Survivors include her cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Esther.

    Irma E. Fuehrer, 93, of Badger, MN, died Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at the LifeCare Greenbush Manor, Greenbush MN.
    The funeral service will be Saturday, December 22, 2007 at 3:00 P.M. at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church, Badger, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
    Irma Evelyn Unkel was born July 21, 1914 in Hornick, IA. After graduating from High School, she attended Business College in Grand Island, NE where she met Donald M. Fuehrer. They were married September 17, 1939. Donald and Irma moved to Minnesota in 1948 and retired to Big Wolf Lake, near Cass Lake, MN in 1965. After Donald's death in 1993, Irma made her home with her daughter in Badger, MN.
    Irma will be remembered for her love of gardening, sewing, crafts, playing pinochle with friends, her days at the lake and most of all, her devotion to her family.
    She is survived by two daughters; Leah Meland, Badger, MN, and Janice (Jim) Harvey, Newport News, VA; one brother, Dean (Phyllis) Unkel, Hornick, IA; one sister, Phyllis Evans, San Diego, CA; four grandchildren, Jimmy (Helen) Harvey and Jeff (Tracy) Harvey, Newport News, VA, Heather Ellingsen, Minnetonka, MN, Jodi (Daniel) Phillips, Fargo, ND; two grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald and son-in-law, James Meland.

    Fern E. Jones, 79, of Hornick died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at a Sioux City hospital of lymphoma.
    Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Evangelical Church in German City, Hornick, Iowa, with the Rev. Jim Scallion and Dick Morgan officiating. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery, Holly Springs, Iowa. Visitation will be 2 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel in Sioux City.
    Mrs. Jones was born May 26, 1920, in rural Hornick, the daughter of Theodore and Freda (Unkel) Steinhoff.
    She graduated from Hornick High School in 1938 and Omaha Business School. She was employed as a bookkeeper with Brandeis Department Store in Omaha for a few years.
    She married Orlie Jones on Feb. 14, 1942, in German City, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Hornick area.
    She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Church and Dorcus Society. She was active in 4-H and the Hornick Depot Museum.
    Survivors include her husband; two daughters and their husbands, Lynette and Jerry Spicer of Ames, Iowa, and Kristin and Roger Skelton of Rembrandt, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Wayne and Luella Steinhoff of Hornick; and six grandchildren, Foy, Clarissa and Carmi Spicer and Jacob, Matthew and Jessica Skelton.

    Wayne C. Steinhoff, 89, of Onawa, formerly of the Hornick area died at a Sioux City hospital on September 5, 2011.
    Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 8, 2011 at Hornick United Methodist Church with Pastor Catie Newman officiating.
    Visitation will be at the church 9:00 a.m. until the service. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery at Holly Springs, Iowa. Military honors will be conducted by Hornick American Legion Hindman Steele Post 492. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa.
    Wayne was born in rural Hornick, on May 12, 1922 to Theodore and Freda (Unkel) Steinhoff. After losing his mother at the age of 5, he lived in various homes until his high school years when he lived with Ward and Rose Smith of Hornick.
    He graduated from Hornick High School in 1940. After completing an aircraft mechanics course in Omaha, he worked for Douglas Aircraft and Kaiser Shipyards on the west coast before enlisting in the Army Air Corps in 1943. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Iowa to begin his successful career in farming. Although he retired from farming in 1984, his love for the land and interest in agriculture continued.
    On June 25, 1944 he married Luella Koenig in rural Whiting. Together they celebrated 67 years of marriage and thousands of miles of travel throughout the U.S., Europe, and Japan. His family was his greatest joy - especially his four grandsons. After spending 42 winters in Texas, they moved to Premier Estates in Onawa in June of 2011.
    He was a member of the Hornick United Methodist Church, the Hornick American Legion, and Attica Masonic Lodge of Sloan. In past years, he was active in his community by serving on various boards.
    Survivors include his wife, Luella; daughter Susan (Harvey) Matthias, and son Lael (Wanetta) Steinhoff all of rural Hornick. His four grandsons include Jeff (Allison) Matthias of Indianola, Scott (Lori) Matthias,
    Brian (Teresa) Steinhoff, and Dana Steinhoff all of Hornick. He thoroughly enjoyed 7 great-grandchildren: CJ, Gabe, Addi, Abbie and Cael Matthias, Levi Smith and Taylor Steinhoff.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and her husband Fern (Orlie) Jones and Ward and Rose Smith.
