Christian "Chris" Nies, a long-time Lodian and Victor vineyardist, died Wednesday in a local hospital after a short illness. He was 84.
Nies was born and reared in Ashley, N.D., but came to Lodi with his parents in 1903. He attended school here and married the late Martha Lachenmaier in 1913 who died in 1965.
Nies married Lillian Stelzer in March 1970.
He was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church.
He is survived by hs wife, a son, Harry Nies of Lodi; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Darlene Ehrhardt; one brother, Jacob Nies; one sister, Mrs. Martha Lea Handel; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
