Roland Marion Reibenspies, 59, passed away June 17th, 2015, at The Tipton Manor Nursing Home.
He was the son of the late Leo and Louise Reibenspies of Tipton, MO and the youngest of their six children, Terence (wife Dottie) Reibenspies of Simi Valley, CA, Hedy (husband Al) Rackers of Columbia, MO, Philip Reibenspies (died at birth), Jane (husband Glen) Stratman of Jefferson City, MO and Renee (husband Bob) Barr of Marshall, MO.
Roland was a Down Syndrome special needs child born January 31, 1956 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Boonville, MO.
He lived at home for several years and would live in Group Homes in the Sedalia and Smithton area until he came to the Tipton nursing home. He struggled to do ordinary tasks as a baby and toddler but would eventually learn to walk at age 5. His parents provided him with the extra care and love he needed and his siblings cared for him also. He was a brother, playmate and special addition to our family.
When Roland was born, the book "Angel Unaware" written by Dale Evans Rogers was a great comfort to his parents. Roy Rogers and Dale Evans had a Down Syndrome little girl born into their family and the book is written from their little angel's perspective. The book was faith filled and inspiring for parents with special needs children. Roland was our angel and while we do not know or understand the plans God has made for us we heed the words, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight." Proverbs: 3:5-6
Roland lived much longer than anyone expected, and we are grateful for the loving care he received from all of his caregivers over the years and most recently those at The Tipton Oak Manor. We thank all of you who gave Roland your loving attention. We rest in the knowledge that Roland is no longer bound by the limits of his human body but is in the care of our Heavenly Father who welcomes this special angel home.
