Everett was born Aug. 2, 1929, to Patrick and Aldia (Thibault) Knipp on the family farm near Zurich, Kan. He joined his three older sisters and was later joined by a brother. Everett graduated from Palco High School in Palco, Kan., in 1948. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, leaving home in December 1948. He served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in September 1952.
After being discharged from the Air Force, he went to work in Wichita, Kan., for Boeing Aircraft for a short time before returning home to Palco. He started working for Shell Oil in 1953 as a Class II roustabout digging ditches.
On Oct. 13, 1953, Everett married his one true love, Phyllis Desaire. Everett and Phyllis started their married life at Palco, where their family of nine children began.
Everett continued his career with Shell Oil for many years, moving his family to Guymon and Ardmore, Okla.; Denver, Colo.; and finally, to Baker in July 1969 where they have made their home since. He had a long and successful career with Shell Oil, working his way up and after 35 years retired in 1989 as the production foreman for the entire Shell Anticline field.
Everett loved decorating his home inside and out for the Christmas holiday. For many years, the Everett and Phyllis Knipp home was the best decorated in Baker. He loved gardening and cooking. A cold winter day would find Everett and Phyllis in the kitchen cooking up a pot of vegetable soup, doughnuts and long johns, or his delicious homemade pizza.
Everett was very active in his children's lives during their growing years. He coached his sons' Peewee and Little League Baseball teams and his daughters' softball teams. After he had grandchildren in sports, he attended all of their games in Baker and traveled many miles to away games.
Everett was a man who could accomplish anything he put his mind to. He was a carpenter, car mechanic and appliance mechanic all rolled into one. He did many remodeling projects in their home and even built a large addition onto their home in Baker. He taught himself woodworking and built many beautiful pieces of furniture throughout the years. His final woodworking accomplishment before Alzheimer's claimed him was to build church doors for St. John's Catholic Church in Baker. The doors are still on the church today, and Everett will be carried through them by his family during his final goodbye.
Throughout his life he was active in the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion and served on the Baker School Board for many years. Everett was a devout Catholic and truly lived his faith. Family was a very important part of his life, and he loved family gatherings, especially when his many grandchildren and great grandchildren were all there. He loved teasing the little ones and always had a large smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. Everett never met a stranger and will be missed by many. His life was truly one you can hang your hat on.
Everett is survived by his wife of 59 years, Phyllis; his sister JoAnna Schott, of Phoenix, Ariz.; his brother, Vincent Knipp, of Denver, Colo.; along with all nine of his children, Debi (Rick) Wiman, Baker, Joan (Ralph) Koenig, Baker, Saundra (Noel) Emerson, Atoka, Okla., Allan (Terra) Knipp, Surrey, N.D., Brenda (Scott) Fradenburgh, Glendive, Mont., Karen (Brent) Brockel, Baker, Charlotte (Mike) Carl, Las Vegas, Nev., Jeff (Dawn) Knipp, Billings, and Pat (Shawna) Knipp, Dickinson, N.D.; along with 28 grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
