Dorothy E. Dawkins, 87, of Keokuk died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at her home, 1703 Parkview Hts, Keokuk, IA 52632.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Greaves Mortuary in Keokuk.
Dorothy E. Dawkins, 87, of Keokuk died at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at her home.
Born Sept. 22, 1921, in Donnellson, she was the daughter of Otto R. and Katherine A. Wharton Summers. On Oct. 5, 1937, she married John J. Marlin in Keokuk. He died April 10, 1962. On Nov. 23, 1968, she married Richard E. Dawkins in Keokuk. He died Dec. 27, 1999.
Mrs. Dawkins was a homemaker. She had been a resident of Keokuk since 1937. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, Ladies of Charity, Auxiliary of the Elks and Elks Ladies Golfers and Immaculate Conception Cluster. She enjoyed bowling, golfing and playing cards.
Survivors include four sons, Francis Marlin and William Marlin, both of Keokuk, and John Marlin and Michael Marlin, both of Cedar Rapids; one stepson, Craig Schwartz of Michigan; two daughters, Kathleen Church of Fort Meyers, Fla., and Therese Wheatley of Columbia, Mo.; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; several step grandchildren; several step great-grandchildren; and several step great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Hubert Summers of Tucson, Ariz.; one sister, Pansy Winkler of Hamilton, Ill.; nieces and nephews.
Besides her two husbands, she was preceded in death by one son, one daughter, one grandchild, one great-grandchild, her parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Greaves Mortuary in Keokuk where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Christian Vigil at 7:30 p.m.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Dawkins will be at 10 a.m. Friday at All Saints Catholic Church in Keokuk with the Rev. Paul Connolly officiating. Burial will be in National Cemetery in Keokuk.
Memorials have been established for All Saints Catholic Church and the Richard and Dorothy Dawkins Memorial for the Keokuk Catholic School System.
Note:
At the time of John's death, Dorothy had her name placed on the stone, however, she later remarried and is interred with her second husband Richard in the Keokuk National Cemetery.

Betty was born on April 13, 1931 to Myran and Cecil (Summers) Davis in Keokuk, Iowa. Betty went to be with our Lord on December 9, 2012 in Oklahoma City at the St. Anthony Hospital. She was a member of Beaty Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband: Johnny of the home in Pauls Valley. Betty was the oldest of three girls and one brother who is deceased. After high school, Betty joined the U. S. Air Force. She and Johnny met at a basketball game while they both were stationed in Denver, Co. Lowry A.F.B. Johnny said he saw Betty standing on the steps in the basketball gym and thought she was the most beautiful woman he ever saw. Their first date was in January of 1950 and they married on March 4, 1950. They were married sixty-two years, nine months, and five days. Betty enjoyed water skiing, motorcycle vacation trips and motorcycle rallies. She owned and ran the Western Café for about five years. She was a nurses aid for ten years at the Pauls Valley Hospital. She was Johnny's secretary at their motorcycle shop, Rebel Suzuki in Pauls Valley. Betty also loved being with her family. After they were married Betty and Johnny lived in Pauls Valley for thirty-seven years. They moved to Corpus Christi to be a Kawaski Sales Manager. After eleven years, they decided to come home to Pauls Valley in 2001. They built their dream home together on 105 Fields Row.

MARION –– John J. Marlin Jr., 69, of Marion died Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, at his home after a long battle with cancer.
He was born on Sept. 10, 1940, in Keokuk, the son of John J. Sr., and Dorothy E. (Summers) Marlin Dawkins.
He was a 1959 graduate of Cardinal Stritch High School, Keokuk.
He was in the United States Army from 1959 to 1962.
He married Sigrid Monika (Maag) Jacobs on July 19, 1997, in Marion. She survives.
John worked as a Realtor in Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, and Marion from 1977 to 2010.
In 1997, he started his own brokerage company, Marlin Realty Consultants. He was a member of the National Association of Realtors, the Iowa Association of Realtors, and many other Realty Associations.
He also was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Marion, American Legion Post 298 of Marion and the Knights of Columbus No. 5390 of Marion.
Additional survivors include: two daughters from a previous marriage, Christina (Randy) Meeker of Madrid, and Jo Ann Marlin (Sid Jones) of Des Moines; a stepson, William Allen Jacobs II of Cedar Rapids; three brothers, Francis (Carol) Marlin of Keokuk, Mike (Nan) Marlin of Cedar Rapids and William (Sala) Marlin of Keokuk; two sisters, Kathleen Church of Florida and Therese (Ed) Wheatley of Columbia, Mo.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews; and his special dog, Lucy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law; father-in-law; a sister, Rose Marie Dinkleman; a brother, Robert Marlin; and a brother-in-law, Roger Church.
John and Monika were sponsors for a child from India through the Rev. John McClean's association with CFCA.
John enjoyed his family, boating on the Mississippi and retirement.
A memorial mass was held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Marion, with the Rev. Rod Allers officiating.
The family greeted friends from 4 to 8 p.m., Sunday at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Marion, with a wake beginning at 7 p.m., and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.
Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military rites provided by American Legion Post 298, Marion.
The family expressed appreciation to all of the help they received from Mercy Hospice of Cedar Rapids (Tracy, Tammy and Christina) and Dr. Marc Wilkinson of Marion.
