Mary Jane Polifka, age 77, of Hays died Thursday, January 03, 2013, at the Locust Grove Village Nursing Home in LaCrosse, Kansas.
Mary Jane was born March 25, 1935, in Codell, Kansas, to Nick N. and Philomene (Dreiling) Rohleder. She graduated from Girls Catholic High School. She married Arlen Polifka on February 16, 1957 in Emmeram, Kansas. She was a homemaker and a member of the St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church in Hays.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Arlen of the home in Hays; sons, David Polifka of Quinter, Ks. and his special friend Cindy Braun of Munjor, Mark Polifka and wife, Karin of Ellis, Kan., and John Polifka and wife, Eliane of San Diego, Calif.; a brother, Val Rohleder of Abilene, Kan.; sisters, Rita Wolf and Josita Pfannenstiel, both of Hays; 11 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ron Rohleder, sisters, Petronella Graf and Theresa VonLintel, a great grandson, Hudson Polifka .
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 7, 2013, at the St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 2901 E. 13th. Burial will be in the St. Catherine Cemetery in Catherine, Kansas. There will be a parish vigil service at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 5 until 8 p.m. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 9:15 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial has been established in her name and memory with Hospice of Hays Medical Center or for masses.
