    Alice Reit, 79 of Harrisburg, died Monday, November 27, 2006 at Southridge Healthcare Center.
    Alice Berndt was born October 19, 1927 in Tyndall, SD, to Arthur and Louise (Grimme) Berndt. She grew up in the Tyndall area and graduated from Tyndall High School.
    She was united in marriage to Herman Reit on July 10, 1948 at Luverne, Minnesota. They made their home in Sioux Falls before moving to Harrisburg where they lived for 46 years. She was employed at John Morrell Co. until her retirement.
    She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Harrisburg since 1959.
    She enjoyed crocheting afghans and was famous for her popcorn balls at Halloween.
    Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Herman, one brother Bud and two infant brothers.
    Grateful for having shared her life are: her children, John (Jeri) Reit of Harrisburg, SD, JoAnne Reit (special friend Jeff) of LaCrosse, WI, Carroll Reit, of Brandon, SD, Darla (Steve) Enger of Sioux Falls; four grandchildren; three sisters, Arliss Hellman, Sharon Olson,and Martha Christopherson; three brothers, Bill, Loren and Myron Berndt.
    Funeral services will be Friday, December 1, 2006 at the United Methodist Church in Harrisburg with burial in Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Heritage Funeral Home with the family present from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorials maybe directed to the United Methodist Church in Harrisburg.

    John Arthur Reit, 57 of Harrisburg, died Monday, May 28, 2007 at the Royal C. Johnson Veterans Hospital.
    He was born June 27, 1949 in Sioux Falls, SD, the son of Herman and Alice Reit. He lived in Sioux Falls until his seventh grade year when his family moved to Harrisburg, SD. He graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1967. While in high school he enjoyed playing taps for military graveside rites. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. On August 18, 1973 he was united in marriage to Jerilyn Norland in Depew, IA. They moved to Harrisburg where he worked for John Morrell Co. In 1975 their son A.J. was born. In January 1976 they moved to Iowa where they farmed. In 1977 they moved back to Harrisburg where he worked for Friessen Construction and later for Midwest Rail Car Co. before ill health forced him to retire. John enjoyed umpiring baseball games, bowling and fishing.
    Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Jeri of Harrisburg; son, A.J. of Sioux Falls; his siblings, Joanne Reit (Jeff Smith) of LaCrosse, WI, Carroll Reit of Brandon, SD, Darla (Steve) Enger of Sioux Falls; his mother-in-law, Virginia Norland of Emmetsburg, IA, his brothers and sisters-in-law and numerous nieces, nephews, aunt and uncles.
    Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 31 at the United Methodist Church in Harrisburg, with burial in Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday at Heritage Funeral Home with the family present from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.
