Merlyn M. Zimbelman, 84, of Loveland, passed away on May 24, 2010.
He was born on Dec. 8, 1925, in St. Francis, Kan., to George and Hannah Zimbelman. He graduated from Berthoud High School in 1943. Merlyn was named to the all state basketball team in high school. He has lived in Loveland, Colo., since 1936.
Merlyn married Maxine Oswandel on Dec. 26, 1946, in St. Francis, Kan.
He worked at Safeway Inc. for 40 years, retiring in 1987.
Merlyn was a lifetime member of the Elks for 60 years and a member of the Sheriff's Mounted Patrol for 40 years where he participated in many search-and-rescue missions and announced for the kids rodeo at the Larimer County Fair and Rodeo.
He liked bowling, baseball, softball, riding horses and mowing his yard!
Merlyn was a member of the First Christian Church. He loved rodeo events and spending time with grand- and great-grandchildren showing livestock.
Merlyn is survived by his wife; daughter; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters.
