Mrs. Henry Meth's Death
Prominent Hamburg Woman Laid
to Rest Friday, Jan. 30
Mrs. Henry Meth died Tuesday morning at 1:30, January 27, at her home near Hamburg, of cancer of the stomach, from which she had been suffering for the past two years.
Deceased was fifty-two years old; was born in Rohrbach, Russia, March 9, 1863, her parents' name being Wehl. She was married in the old country, and came to America 21 years ago, and lived in McIntosh county, North Dakota, three years before coming to Wells county ND in 1895, where her husband took a homestead on section 12 in Hamburg township, where the family still lives. Ten children, five boys and five girls, all still at home with exception of one daughter, Mrs. August Seidel, Jr, who lives near survive her. The oldest child is thirty and the youngest nine years.
The funeral was held Friday, January 30, service being conducted at the home and in the German Baptist church of Germantown, the remains being laid to rest in the Germantown Baptist cemetery. The many friends of the mourners extend sincere sympathy.
Additional details received later are that Rosina Wehl was married in 1884, coming to this country in 1893. The Rev. O. W. Brenner preached the funeral service, choosing for his text Psalms 116, verse 15: "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." The pallbearers were Joe Edinger, Fred Seibold, August Seidel, Sr. and George Buechler, Sr. Deceased had been an ardent worker in the German Baptist church from the time of her arrival in this country, and had set a bright example for all who were privileged to know her and her courage during the two years of her illness was remarkable.

OBITUARY
(1) Mrs. August Seidel, 82, Fessenden, was killed last Saturday afternoon in a two car crash at the intersection of US 52 and ND 3 south of Harvey. The car driven by Mr. Seidel came into the intersection from the north as a station wagon with three Minnesota men approached from the east. Mrs. Seidel died instantly of a broken neck and skull fractures. .. Mr. Seidel and Mrs. Atilda Broschat, a passenter in the Seidel car, are still hospitalized at Harvey, but their condition is reported as good.
(2) Funeral service were held Wednesday at Germantown Baptist Church for Mrs. August (Christine) Seidel, 82, of Fessenden, who was killed in a two-car accident south of Harvey Saturday.. Mrs. Seidel, the former Christine Meth, was born in Russia Nov. 1, 1884. She married Mr. Seidel at Cathay June 28, 1906. The farmed in Germantown Township, Wells County, east of Fessenden, until 1953, then retired and moved into Fessenden. Survivors include her husband, a son, Clarence of Cathay; four sisters, Mrs. Katie Scherbenski, Baptist Home, Bismarck; Mrs. Oscar (Pauline) Thor, Cokato, MN; Mrs. Rose Link, Miami, Fl; Mrs. Atilda Broschat, Fessenden; four brothers, John Meth of Maddock, Gust Meth of Fargo, Walter Meth of Alexandria, MN, Albert Meth of Lodi, CA; two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Mrs. Scherbenske died Sunday in a Bismarck hospital after two days of hospitalization. She had made her home in the Bismarck Baptist Home for the past six years. She was married to Oscar Thor at Hamberg Dec. 29, 1920, and the couple lived at Wilton until 3 years ago when they moved to Cokato, Minn. She leaves her husband, four daughters, Mrs. Whayland (Viola) Anderson, Cokato; Mrs. Howard (Helma) Rogers, St. Paul, Minn.; Mrs. Clifford (Irma) Sundblad, Annandale, Minn.; and Mrs. Russell (Rose Marie) Rosenau, Twin Falls, Idaho; and 10 grandchildren. She also leaves four brothers, Albert and Gust Meth, Lodi, Calif.; Walter, Alexandria, Minn.; and John, Braddock; and two sisters, Mrs. Tilly Broschat, Bismarck, ND, and Rose Link, Miami, Fla. Mrs. Thor was hospitalized July and died July 5.

Mr. Meth was born 19 sep 1898, on a farm in Wells County, where he was raised and educated. He ran the family homestead until he moved to a nearby farm. He married Elsie Siebold, Dec. 20, 1923, in Germantown Township. The couple farmed until 1954, when they retired and moved to Fargo. They moved to Lodi, CA, in 1968 and to Bismarck in 1983. He is survived by his wife; 1 daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and charles Blinn, Phoenix, AZ; 1 son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. Orville and Irma, Bismarck; 1 brother, Albert, Carrington; 5 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Ernest (Atilda) Broschat, 79, passed away Friday, February 24, at the Baptist Nursing Home in Bismarck. Funeral services were held Monday, February 27, at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Fessenden.. Burial will be at Germantown Cemetery, rural Cathay. Mrs. Broschat was born November 24, 1898, at rural Bremen, Hamberg Township, to Henry and Rosina Meth. She attended school in the Hamberg Rural School and graduated from Fessenden High School. She taught school for several years, moving to Fessenden in 1948. Mrs. Broschat's husband died June 29, 1951. Mrs. Broschat entered the Baptist Nursing Home in June, 1968.. Survivors include three sons, Emerty, Cathay, Myron, Fergus Falls, MN, Richard, Williston. Nine grandchildren and one great grandchild; four brothers, Albert and Gust, Lodi, CA, John, Maddock, and Walter, Alexandria, MN.

The funeral for Albert Meth, 85, Carrington, formerly of Lodi, CA, was held Tues., Dec. 26 at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.. Interment at Cherokee Memorial Park, Lodi, CA. Mr. Meth died Sat., Dec. 23 at Carrington Health Center. Mr. Meth was born Hamberg Township near Bremen on March 31, 1904 to Henry and Rose (Woehl) Meth. He grew up in the Bremen area and attended country school and Benson County Agricultural School at Maddock. He worked for area farmers until beginning to farm for himseld in the Bremen area. He married Lydia Martin Nov. 21, 1928. They moved to a farm near Fessenden in 1935. He retired in 1966 and they moved to Lodi, CA. Mrs. Meth died Feb. 1, 1980. He moved to Carrington in June of 1989. Mr. Meth is survived by 1 son, Curtis of Carrington and 1 daughter, Mrs. Arlo (Betty) Seidel of Cathay; 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

HISTORY
From Beulah, ND, Diamond Jubilee.
Herb Scherbinske and Catherine Cox were married Sept. 7, 1946. Catherine was born and reared in Beulah. She taught rural schools in the area and during the World War II years she was a welder in the Kaiser Company ship yards in Portland OR.
Catherine is a 35-year member of the Beulah Homemakers Club, was the Royal Neighbors of America recorder for 35 years and is a 30 year O.W.L. member. She is an avid bridge player.
Herb was born at Dickey, ND, and grew up at Cleveland, ND. He came to Beulah in 1941 as an accountant for Liebelt Chevrolet. The years 1942-1945 were spent as a ship builder for the Kaiser Company in Portland. Knife River Coal Mining Company hired Herb in 1945 and the next 40 years were spent with K.R.C. in various positions: chief clerk, superintendent, and manager of special projects. Herb has been very active in the community serving as a member of the Athletic Club, the swimming pool committee, and the Chamber of Commerce, a city councilman for 15 years and a 25-year member of the Rural Fire Department for ten years.
He was instrumental in organizing the Mercer County Ambulance Service and served as its director as well as an emergency medical technician. For 27 years, Herb also served as chairman of the Mercer County School eorganization Committee. Herb is a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He serves as a member of the Beulah Airport Authority.
Herb and Catherine have three children. Lt. Col. H. Bruce is a career U.S. Air Force officer and is married to Valerie Schwan. They have two children, Shanna and Patrick, and live in San Antonio. TX. Wynne A. is an engineering librarian with the Army Corps of Engineers. She is married to George Tysdal and they have one child, David. They live in Omaha, NE. Kittra J. is a pediatric intensive care nurse. She lives in Honolulu, HI.
Mary L. Cox, Catherine's sister, made her home with the family for many years. The family belongs to St. Joseph Church, Beulah. Herb and Catherine both enjoy golfing and spending time at Lake Sakakawea. They also enjoy traveling and visiting their children.
The Scherbinskes still live in the home that Herb built himself shortly after they were married. They say they found the plan for their home on a cereal box.
