John H. Mellinger, 93, of Woodcrest Villa, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2013. He was the husband of the late Irma Books Mellinger who passed away on April 28, 1964 and Rhoda Lehman Mellinger with whom he celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary on October 4, 2012. He was born in Rapho Twp., son of the late Henry and Emma Hostetter Mellinger. He was a production assembler at Sperry New Holland for 23 years before his retirement in 1984. In his earlier years, he farmed in Rapho Twp. until 1962. He was a member of Manor Church; was on the custodial staff for 18 years; was treasurer for many years; and a member of the "Park City Twalkers." He enjoyed bird watching, gardening, and traveling.
He is survived by two sons: Barry (Jeraline) Mellinger, Strasburg and Curtis L. Mellinger, Mountville. One daughter: Diane F. (Jerry S.) Edwards, Mount Joy. Three grandchildren: Josh Mellinger, Newbury Park, CA; Abby Gryszkowiec, Lititz; and Kristy Mellinger, Lancaster. Two brothers: Harold (Nancy) Mellinger and Glenn (Kathy) Mellinger, all of Mount Joy. Three sisters: Anna Grove, Shippensburg; Dorothy (Milton) Byers, Lancaster; and Esther Musser, Mount Joy. He was preceded in death by one brother: Alvin Mellinger and one sister: Mary Gish.
The Memorial Service will be held at Manor Church, 530 Central Manor Road, Lancaster on Friday, April 19, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Robert Sheetz officiating. Private interment in Crossroads Brethren in Christ Cemetery. Friends may call at the ­Workman Funeral Homes, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Mountville on Thursday from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
