    Hastings resident Lovelle Dean Karnatz, 90, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at Mary Lanning Memorial Health Care in Hastings. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Lutheran Church of The Good Shepherd in Hastings with the Rev. Steven Peeler officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Ong Cemetery near Ong. Visitation is 1-8 p.m. today with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel in Clay Center. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
    Lovelle was born May 3, 1920, near Ong Neb., to William John and Jessie (Cassell) Karnatz. He grew up in the Davenport area and attended Davenport Community School through the 11th grade. At that time, he had to help with the farm work with his dad. On Aug. 29, 1948, he married Margaret Koci and they were blessed with four children.
    In 1956, the family moved to Ong where he worked for Clay County Government bin sites. In 1959, he started working for the local Farmers Co-op. He worked in the elevator and then the gas station driving the fuel truck.
    Lovelle retired in 1983. After retirement, Lovelle took up the hobby of woodworking with his daughters. They attended many craft shows in the area. Major interests were traveling, visiting historical sites, camping and fishing. His passion was spending time with his wife, kids, grandkids, great- grandkids and other family members.
    While living in Ong, Lovelle was elected to the town council, was a volunteer fire fighter and served as mayor of Ong.
    He also helped to maintain the cemetery. Lovelle again retired in 1997 and he and Margaret moved to Hastings, Neb.
    He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Hastings, Neb.; daughters, Donna Hunter and Kathy Fischer, both of Lincoln, Neb., and Doris Larsen of Overbrook, Kan.; son, Dennis and wife Lucy Karnatz of Mandaree, N.D.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Ray and wife Margaret Karnatz of Davenport.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Rhodabelle Lowery and Ruby Lonsdale; grandsons, Travis Hakanson and Jeremy Fischer; and son-in-law, Tom Larsen.

    Rhodabelle Lowery, the daughter of William and Jessie (Cassell) Karnatz, was born on July 5, 1921 on a farm near Ong, Nebraska. She passed away on July 30, 2007 at Parkview Haven Nursing Home in Deshler, Nebraska at the age of 86 years, and 25 days.
    Rhodabelle was the second of four children. She was baptized on April 24, 1943 at the Methodist Church in Davenport, Nebraska. She attended District 30 Hammond School northwest of Davenport through part of the 8th grade and finished 8th at Valley View School which is in Thayer County and she graduated from Davenport High School in 1938 . She taught school for four years in rural schools then entered the Bonnell Beauty School in Hastings. After completing this course, she went into business for herself, operating a beauty salon in Shickley, Nebraska. She and her sister, Ruby Lonsdale, operated a small grocery store in Oak called the Oak Market for several years in the early 1980's.
    She was united in marriage to Robert (Alvin) Lowery on March 1, 1947, in Belleville, Kansas. Five children were born to this marriage. The couple farmed by Oak, Nebraska and moved into Alvin's parents' home after they passed away in Oak.
    Rhodabelle was a member of King's Daughter's of Oak, serving as president for many years. She was also a member of the Oak Community Church and was the pianist for the congregation for over forty years. Other interests included gardening and raising flowers, playing the organ and piano. Her hobbies included, crochet and was interested in crafts of all varieties. She loved spending time with all her grandchildren. A favorite pet, was the family Cocker Spaniel, named, "Blacky". Traveling to California by train, with her husband, was her most enjoyable trip.
    Rhodabelle lived in her home in Oak, prior to moving to Parkview Haven Nursing Home on March 11, 2002, where she resided until her death.
    Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Alvin on March 11, 2002; son, Stanley; and sister, Ruby Lonsdale.
    Survivors include her children, daughter, Lynda J. Meyer and husband Terry of Bertrand, Nebraska; sons, Craig R. and Richard D. both of Oak, Nebraska and daughter, Connie F. Stichka and husband Michael G. of Ruskin, Nebraska; daughter-in-law, Rae Jeanne Lowery of Lincoln, Nebraska;14 grandchildren, Christine A. Lowery, Kevin J. Lowery, Lonnie L. Meyer and fiancé Amy Hilmer, Shannon W. Meyer and fiancé Alison Fisher, Jeffrey R. Lowery and wife Amanda, Scott J. Lowery and wife Amy, Courtney A. Lowery and wife Jennifer, Tessa M. Jones and husband Jim, Tara R. Lowery, Teraesa L. Siefkis and husband Chauncey, Robert D. Lowery, Tyson M. Stichka, Taylor S. Stichka and wife Mindy, and Whitney A.     Funeral services were held on Friday, August 3, 2007 at 2:00 PM from the First Community Church in Oak, Nebraska with Pastor Steve Matthews officiating. Music was "Fly To Jesus" and "How Great Thou Art", solo by Stephanie Thayer and congregational hymn, "What A Friend We Have In Jesus", with Cloma Corman as accompanist.
    Pallbearers were Lonnie Meyer, Shannon Meyer, Kevin Lowery, Jeff Lowery, Scott Lowery, Courtney Lowery, Robert Lowery, Tyson Stichka and Taylor Stichka. Honorary Pallbearers were Christine Lowery, Teraesa Siefkis, Tessa Jones, Tara Lowery and Whitney Stichka.
    Interment was in the Nelson Cemetery at Nelson, Nebraska.

    Ruby June Lonsdale, 77, the daughter of William John and Jessie Isabelle (Cassell) Karnatz, was born on the farm near Davenport, Oct 26, 1924. She died Friday at the Parkview Haven Nursing Home in Deshler.
    She was the third of four children born to her parents. She attended county schools in Nuckolls and Thayer counties and graduated from Davenport High School in 1942. After high school she taught at Logan Township School west of Ong. She then attended and graduated from beauty school in Hastings.. She worked as a beautician in Nelson. She then went to Lincoln and worked in a children's home. While she lived in Oak, she and her sister, Rhodabelle, operated a small grocery store.
    She married James Donald Lonsdale on Oct 21, 1958, in Mullen, Neb. They lived and farmed in the Davenport area. During her lifetime Ruby lived in Hastings, Lincoln, Davenport and Oak. In May of 2002 she entered Parkview Haven Nursing Home.
    She was a member of the First Community Church of Oak and served on the church board, was a member of the Dorcas Missionary Society, sang in the church choir and taught Sunday school; a member of Oak Kings Daughters Library, where she served as president; and a member of the Oak Village Board. Her hobbies included reading, embroidery and crossword puzzles.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oct 8, 1975; and a step-son, James Darwin Lonsdale, in June of 1966.
    She is survived by her brothers, Lovelle Karnatz, Hastings and Ray Karnatz, Davenport; sister, Rhodabelle Lowery, Deshler; six nephews and eight nieces.
    Services were held Tuesday at the First Community Church in Oak, with Pastor Carl Trichard officiating.
    Interment was in the Davenport City Cemetery.

    Stanley Ray Lowery, 56, the son of Robert and Rhodabelle (Karnatz) Lowery, was born Oct 28, 1947 at Davenport. He was the oldest of five children born to his parents. He died May 11, at Thayer County Health Services Hospital in Hebron, Neb.
    He attended the Oak Grade School, Davenport Public High School and received his associate degree in applied Arts from Central Nebraska Tech, Hastings.
    He served his country in the U S Navy MCB. Three as a member of the Seabee's during the Vietnam war from Jan 7, 1969 to Nov 20, 1972. He married Rae Jeanne Legg Dec 21, 1974, at the Oak community Church.
    He owned and operated Stan's Heating and Air Conditioning, Ruskin.
    He was a member and secretary of the Ruskin volunteer Fire Department, a member of St Mark Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post, Ruskin.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Alvin Lowery. He is survived by his wife, Rae Jeanne; children, Christine Anne Lowery, Chicago, and Kevin John Lowery, Hastings; mother, Rhodabelle Lowery, Deshler; two sisters, Mrs Terry Meyer (Lynda), Bertrand and Mrs Michael Stichka (Connie), Ruskin; and two brothers, Craig and Richard Lowery, both of Oak.
    Services were held on Sunday at St Mark Lutheran Church in Ruskin with Pastor Paul Albrecht and Vicar Paul Hopkins officiating.
    Interment with full military rites by Ruskin American legion Post was in the Union Valley Cemetery, Republic County, Kan.
    Ahrendts Funeral Home of Deshler, was in charge of arrangements.
