    George L Sholtz, the son of Bill and Mary Sholtz, was born on December 19, 1909 in Jewell County, Kansas. He passed away on Thursday, January 12, 1984, at the Nuckolls County Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior, Nebraska, at the age of 74 years and 23 days.
    George was united in marriage to Ellen Kulek on June 24, 1929. To this union three children were born, Mrs Lyle (Shirley) Bartness of Port Lavaca, Texas, Bill Sholtz of Guide Rock and Mrs Keith (Kyla) Ely of Bonham, Texas.
    He had been a long-time resident of the Guide Rock community, having spent most of his life in the area. George was a devoted Guide Rock businessman until his retirement from the service station in 1976. As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing in his leisure times.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ellen on May 3, 1975; and two brothers, Elmer and Clarence Sholtz.
    He leaves to mourn his son, Bill and wife, Barb Sholtz; daughters, Mrs Shirley Bartness and husband Lyle, and Mrs Kyla Ely and husband, Keith; six grandchildren, Mrs Robert (Regi) Lane, Michael Gleason, Mrs David (Darcie) Beins, Mrs Randy (Delcie) Garvin, and Scott and Courtney Ely; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs Albert (Dora) Payne; a brother, Wilbur Sholtz; other relatives and his many friends.
    Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 16, 1984, from the Simonson-Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Red Cloud with the Rev Richard Kelderhouse officiating. Mrs Wanda Langer provided the vocal selections, accompanied by Mrs Clarice Norman, organist.
    The casket bearers were Keith Hartman, Bill Booker, Vic James, Chet Ewer, Jim Robb and Raymond Amack. Interment was in the Guide Rock Cemetery.

    Guide Rock resident Bill E Sholtz, 64, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at Franklin County Hospital in Franklin.
    Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Guide Rock with the Rev Leslie Warner officiating. Burial will be in Guide Rock Cemetery, Simonson-Williams Funeral Home of Red Cloud is in charge of arrangements.
    Mr. Sholtz was born April 10, 1938 to George L. and Ellen M. (Kulek) Sholtz at Guide Rock. He graduated from Guide Rock High School in 1955 and completed his education at DeVry Technical Institute, On Oct 18, 1959, he married Barbara A Kottmeyer. They lived in Guide Rock where he owned and operated Bill Sholtz TV and Appliance for more that 40 years.
    He was a member of Guide Rock First Baptist Church, serving as deacon and trustee and American Baptist Men. He also was a member of Guide Rock Town Board, Guide Rock Lions Club, Nebraska Muzzleloaders Association, Republican Valley Shooters' Associating and Kountry Kousin Squaredancers. He was a former Boy Scout leader and past chairman of Guide Rock Area Development Committee.
    Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Darcie Porter of Orleans and Delcie Garvin of Hastings; two sisters, Shirley Gleason of Harlingen, Texas and Kyla Ely of Brentwood, Tenn.; four grandchildren and one stepgrandchild.
