McCLUSKY - Jacob “Jake†Dockter, 78, McClusky, was called to his eternal home on May 24, 2010, at St. Alexius Medical Center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 28, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, McClusky. Burial will be in McClusky City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. today at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky.
Jake was born July 24, 1931, to Michael Sr. and Christine (Gienger) Dockter at home in rural Anamoose. He attended rural school near McClusky. He married Joyce Hieb on Nov. 27, 1959, in McClusky, and celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2009. Together, they had three children.
Jake took pride in farming, gardening and woodworking. He enjoyed cooking German dishes and was a great soup maker. He loved music - singing and playing piano were a couple favorites. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s sporting events. He looked forward to all social events and especially enjoyed his morning coffee outings.
Jake was active at St. John’s Lutheran serving as elder and head usher through the years. Weekly bible studies were also important to him.
Jake is survived by his wife, Joyce “Joâ€; their two daughters, Lyn (Curt) Krecklau and Beckie (Kevin) Strege, Bismarck; one son, Craig (Kathy) Dockter, Mobridge, S.D.; seven grandchildren, Taylor, Andrew and Aaron Krecklau, Kristine and Matthew Strege and Zachary and Caleb Dockter; five sisters, Freida Ehrmann, Drake, Christine (Eddie) Kauk, Isanti, Minn., Mary (LaVern) Axt, Baldwin, Martha (Gordon) Felchle, Goodrich, and Kathy (Ron) Seibel, Wichita, Kan.; two brothers, Art (Evy) Dockter, Fargo, and Benjamin (Betty) Dockter, McClusky; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by both parents; and his siblings Adam, Mike, Emily, Esther and Jonathan.
