Mr. Croissant was a veteran auctioneer in the Alta district, well known in Dinuba. He was featured in a
"Page Four" article in the Sentinel August 5.
He was elected to the Reedley City Council in 1986 and was serving on the council at the time of his death. As a council member, he served as mayor of Reedley for two years.
He died September 27, 1993, at the age of 82. He was known as a loving and caring man of dignity and integrity and a man of the highest Christian principles.
He built and operated the Alta Sales Yard in Dinuba. For 25 years, he volunteered his services at the annual Mennonite Cental Committee's relief auction which each spring is attended by thousands of people from throughout the West Coast.
Mr. Croissant was a native of Johnstown, Colorado, and one of nine brothers and three sisters. He grew up working on his Father's cattle ranch. He told the Sentinel that milking cows by hand as a boy and going to auctions with his dad was the stepping stone to becoming an auctioneer.
He married his wife Rebecca (Wiest), December 31, 1933 and the two of them raised sugar beets in Colorado before moving to Reedley in 1938. She helped him start the Alta Sales Yard in 1947. She kept track of the accounts and ran the lunchroom.
