Isabel Helm, 96, McClusky, died Oct. 24, 2005, at Medcenter One, Bismarck. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at United Methodist Church, McClusky. Burial will be at McClusky City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 7:30 p.m. today at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky.
Isabel Dorothy (Broeckel) Helm was born June 16, 1909, at Herreid, S.D., to John K. and Alvina (Jaton) Broeckel. The family moved to Broadus, Mont, and then to McClusky. She married Adolph Helm at McClusky. They lived and farmed in Sheridan County until retiring and moving into McClusky in 1966.
Adolph died March 2, 1967. She then moved to Mandan for six months and was a child-care provider. She returned to McClusky and worked at the McClusky school as assistant cook, and she baby-sat for many community families.
Isabel was an active member of United Methodist Church and its women's group. She was a past officer on the Johns Lake Township and School boards. She and Adolph were also 4-H leaders.
Isabel is survived by her daughters, Jerda (Lawrence)Blumhagen, Bismarck, Mayola (Orrin) Holen and Arlene (Clifford) Biech, both of McClusky, Lorraine(Albert) Blumhagen, Bismarck, and Vinita (Wayne) Lemler, Rice Lake, Wis.; a son, Wesley (Delores) Helm, McClusky; 20 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Doris Lauer, Bismarck, LeMoyne Erickson, Rochester, Minn., and Shirley Bittner, Mitchell, S.D.
Isabel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five brothers, Wilton, Lloyd, Vernon, Merle and Orville as an infant; five sisters, Gladys Reiser Hirsch, Clara Braunberger Jenotte, Ella Neff, Laura Fitzgerald and Ruby Murray.
The Helm families extend their thanks and appreciation for the care so lovingly given to their mother by the doctors and staff at Medcenter One and the staff at the Terrace, both in Bismarck. (Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky)
