      Lawrence Arnold Schlepp, 85, husband of Ruby Beatrice Schlepp and longtime resident of Copan, Okla., died at 4 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov 25, 2008 in the Continuous Care Center, Bartlesville, Okla.
      Lawrence was born March 29, 1923, in St Francis, Kan., Cheyenne County. He was the son of Ludwig and Christina Schlepp.
      He attended elementary school in Cheyenne county and attended junior and senior high school in St Francis. He was a graduate of the St Francis senior class of 1942. He furthered his educational by attending classes for a short time at Kansas State University, Manhattan.
      After school, Lawrence enlisted in the United States Army and served in Europe during World War II. He was injured on Christmas Eve 1944, in the Battle of the Bulge. He returned to the states where he entered a hospital in new York and later was sent to a hospital in Colorado Springs. Lawrence was honorably discharged from the service in 1945.
      Lawrence and Ruby Beatrice Indorf were married on march 2, 1947, in Goodland. He was employed with the city of St Francis for approximately 10 years where he served as a lineman and office city clerk, later becoming employed with Firestone in St Francis as budget manager. In 1972, the family moved to Burlington, Colo., where he became manager of the Bergin Tire Company (5 years). He then became employed with the Great Western Tire Company, where he worked until his retirement in 1988. In 1989, Lawrence and Ruby moved to Copan and they have continued their home there since retirement.
      He was a member of the First Christian Church, St Francis; and was a life member of the St Francis Masonic Lodge, AF and AM; member of the Goodland Elks; and the Cheyenne Shrine Club, as well as being a volunteer fireman for the St Francis, Fire Department.
      Lawrence is survived by his wife, Ruby, of the home; son, Jeffrey Arnold Schlepp, Brazoria, Texas; daughter Rebecca Lynn Shelton and her husband, Johnny, Danville, Ky; and a brother Leonard Schlepp, St Francis. He was preceded in death be his mother; father; six brothers and five sisters.
      Memorial services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov 28, in the chapel of the Arnold Moore-Dewey Funeral Home, 802 N Cherokee, Dewey, Okla. Don Elliott, minister of the First Christian church, Dewey, Okla. was the officiant.
