1. obituary of Clarence Thienel. "Clarance "Ben" Phienel
Wood River - Clarence Benjamin "Ben" Phienel, 82 of Wood River, died Sunday morning at a Wood River nursing home.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River. The Rev. Curtis Holzworth will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery at Grand Island.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Center in Wood River or to the Amerian Diabetes Association.
Mr. Phienel was born Jan. 27, 1897, at Waterford, Wis., the son of Frank and Pauline Dulitz Phienel. They moved to Nebraska when he was an infant. He received his education in rural schools north of Cairo.
On Nov. 29, 1919, he married Marie Madsen at Grand Island. They lived on a farm north of Cairo with the exception of a year in Washington state and a year at Shelton. They retired in 1959 and moved to Grand Island. They moved to Good Samaritan Home in Wood River in 1973. Mrs Phienel died in January 1975.
He was a charter member of the Southside Baptist Church in Grand Island.
Survivors include two sons, Curtis of Shelton and Dean of Grand Island; four daughters, Mrs Elmer (Margaret) Kempf of Sutton, Mrs. David (Vera) Jameson of Wood River, Mrs. Earl (Betty) Joslin of Sonoma, Calif., and Mrs Irvin (Lois) Derry of Riggins Idaho.
He was preceded in death by an infant son; two grandsons, two brothers and a sister.".
