Notizen - G-Bachmann-wwwrootsweb.ancestry:
After graduating from U.C. Berkeley in 1933, during one of the worst years of The Great Depression, he got a job dipping leather shoe laces in fat. His father got him an interview at Eng-Skell restaurant supply, and he went to work for them for $60-$65 a month, and continued to work for them until his retirement. On his way to work each day in San Francisco, Norman watched the Golden Gate Bridge being built, from 1933 to 1937.
Sometime after he met Edith in Boulder Creek, on October 30, 1938, they were parked on Highway 9 and were listening to the radio when the dramatization of œThe War of the Worlds with Orson Welles broadcasting came on. Norman was already a science fiction buff by then and recognized it as a story by H.G. Wells, so did not panic, as did many others who listened.
