Johann Jacob Grumbach and his wife Catherine are reportedly buried in Toboyne Township, Perry County, PA (see below). There is no independent verification that their burials actually occurred in Eby Cemetery, but it is the only cemetery listed in Toboyne township.
Johann Jacob Grumbach was the son of Barthel Grumbach and Anna Maria Haenich. He was the father of at least 8 children, all born in the America. The sons, either by design or by evolution developed different surnames - Michael being Michael Grubaugh, George and Jacob becoming Crobaugh, John and Frederick becoming Crubaugh and Mary and Nicholas becoming Crumbaugh. All Grubaughs, Crobaughs and Crubaughs can be linked back to these siblings. The Crumbaugh surname was also used by several relatives of Johann Jacob, and is not unique.
The sons settled in different regions of the country. Michael settling in central Ohio (Richland County), the two Crobaughs settling in upstate New York (Seneca County), Frederick Crubaugh settling in eastern Ohio (Columbiana County) and John Crubaugh settling in western Ohio (Butler and Preble County).
The following bio for Johann Jacob Grumbach is excerpted from the book "Crubaugh, the American Story" by William Leon Crubaugh, Jr:
