W.F. Lange (Bill) was the youngest son of Wm. and Friedricka Lange, born on a farm six miles northwest of Bloomfield in July of 1896. He received his education in rural schools and business colleges in Wayne, NE and Sioux City, Iowa.
In 1918, during WWI, he enlisted in the Navy and served in France. Upon returning home, he was employed in the Farmers and Merchants State Bank. In 1922, he was married to Elsie Weber of Hornick, Iowa. To this union, five sons were born; Dale, Dean, Bill , Robert and Raymond. They all graduated from Bloomfield High School. All five enlisted in the service to serve their country. With their G.I. pay they were able obtain college degrees, two from Wayne State and three as engineers from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
After the closing of the bank in 1931, the family, having four sons by then, struggled through tough times for several years. Bill was City Clerk and secretary of the Public School for many years, also writing insurance. In 1935, he acquired the position of Knox County Building And Loan Association. In 1936, the name was changed to Bloomfield Federal Savings and Loan. He held this office until he retired in 1962. He was a lifelong member of First Trinity Lutheran Church, being baptized and confirmed there.
Bill died in December of 1980 at the age of 84 years. A son Raymond , had proceeded him in death by drowning at the age of 28 years.
