Wille Bachmann passed away on Monday, December 5, 2011, at his home at the age of 100 years, 1 month and 14 days old.
Willie Bachmann was born October 22, 1911 in Henrietta, Texas to Pete and Bertha (Wiist) Bachmann.
Willie was the eldest of 13 children. His parents moved from Texas to the Gregory community briefly then on to a Homestead near Wood where he began his formal education including learning the English language since his family spoke only German at home.
Being the eldest he worked many long hours as a very young child to help support his family earning 10 cents a day for 10 hours of labor. He had numerous jobs in his youth one being a CCC camp worker clearing forest in the Black Hills.
In June, 1941 he married Evelyn Rankin and moved to a farm north west of Wood to raise sheep. Eventually he bought the Rankin homestead ranching and farming until his retirement at age 79 at which time he moved to Winner where he resided until his death.
He was known for his ability to always be working and did so until his health didn't allow him to do a lot. He was a great father and grandfather always wanting everyone to learn how to work hard and support themselves.
He always had time to show children how things worked or how to fix it if it was broken. He was an honest and frugal father recycling long before it became a popular idea.
His days as a farmer began long before dawn and ended only when all was done.
He grew up in a large family that had very little opportunity for advanced education but believed whole heartedly that education was very important and sacrificed to make sure his children were afforded that opportunity.
Willie was a very special person and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Evelyn, his sisters; Ruth Estey, Martha VerSteeg, Betty Anderson, his brothers; Pete, Ben, Everette, Carol, his son Clayton, his daughters; Myrna (Bob) Vert, Sharon (Clair) Frey, his grandchildren; Andy Bachmann, Kevin (Terry) Chadley (Janelle) Vert, Braden Frey (Felecia), Heather (Dave) Lacey, Lindsay (Dan) Anders, great grandchildren, Tressa, Zack, Wesley, Ryan, Taylor, Carson, Benjamin, Evan, Alyssa and Kiersten, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Pete and Bertha, brothers Jack, Ernie, John and Gerald and sister Ella Diamond.
