Marvin was born to August and Pauline (Reich) Lehr on October 16, 1927 in Logan County, ND. As a young man he assisted his father with several building projects. At the age of 16, he built a log cabin in Burnstad, ND, after which he relocated to Bismarck, ND and began a construction career. In 1955 he met Frances Kappes through mutual friends and they were married on October 14, 1956. They built a home together in Ashley, ND, where Marvin continued his work in construction. In 1971, he accepted a position with the Harley Miller Construction Co., Bismarck, ND, where he worked as a foreman and estimator. Eventually he accepted a similar position with Associate Builders, Bismarck, ND, where he worked until his retirement in 1989.
Marvin had many interests and pursued all of them with enthusiasm. He built a cabin on Lake Hoskins and enjoyed many hours of boating, skiing, and entertaining family and friends. He also enjoyed motorcycling and snowmobiling, hunting and fishing, butchering, making sausage, jerky and beer, gardening and woodworking. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed non-fiction about World War II and Lewis and Clark.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Frances; four children, Russ (Mary) Lehr, Nadine Lehr, Amy Lehr (Russ Martin) and Lisa (Mark) Klipfel; seven grandchildren, Isaac Lehr (Ashley Melom), Allison Lehr (Tyler Harriman), Arielle Morrison, Caleb Morrison, Hannah Klipfel, Maria Klipfel, Carter Klipfel; one great grandchild, Ivy Melom; one sister, Vera Sheldon; and two brothers, LeRoy (Veronica) Lehr, and Eugene Lehr.
